Sidecar Champ Raises £3,000

A fundraising night organised by nine-times TT sidecar champion Dave Saville raised more than £3,000. Dave, left quadriplegic after a crash in the Manx Grand Prix eight years ago, has been planning an event to give something back to the Island and the racing scene for six years.

Sulby Glen Hotel landlady Rosie Sayle offered Dave the use of the pub for the event and on Saturday his plan came to a hugely successful conclusion. The evening raised a total of £3,053.84 but money is still coming in. The cash, which will be donated to the MGP rescue helicopter fund, was raised through an auction and raffle.

The most successful auction item was a late entry, the shirt off TT star Robert Dunlop's back. Robert attended the event with many other racers to support Dave and got into the spirit by offering his shirt for sale. It raised £300. About 300 people turned up to support Dave. Rosie said the evening had been tremendous.
She added the event might not have happened without the assistance of Tourism and Leisure Minister David Cretney and she paid tribute to the businesses on and off-Island which gave their support.
