Harris secures fifth at Mallory

With the HM Plant Honda Racing duo of Ryuichi Kiyonari and Michael Rutter dominating the 35-strong Superbike field, Harris looked like joining them on the front row for tomorrow’s two 30-lap races. However, Dean Thomas took fourth position from the 25-year-old Yorkshireman by a mere 0.014 seconds in the closing stages of this afternoon’s qualifying period.

After two championship-winning seasons in the British Supersport Championship, Harris has already showed his undoubted potential in the larger capacity four-stroke class. The Sheffield star holds a top six position in the championship points table overall and he will be hoping to record his best finish of the year to date at the 1.39-mile Leicestershire circuit.

Karl Harris: “I’m going to change my lunch-time routine at the next round, because there must be some reason why I am unable to go faster in the afternoon session! While I’m never happy with anything less than a front row start, at least I’m behind directly behind Kiyo in the pole position. I’ll be aiming to get off the line quickly and take full advantage of the good race set-up that I’ve got on my Honda-Racing.co.uk CBR1000RR Fireblade.”

Qualifying: 1. R. Kiyonari (HM Plant Honda Racing) 50.593; 2. M. Rutter (HM Plant Honda Racing) 50.816; 3. G. Richards (Kawasaki) 50.983; 4. D. Thomas (Kawasaki) 51.244; 5. K. Harris (Honda-Racing.co.uk) 51.258; 6. L. Haslam (Ducati) 51.295; 7. S. Smart (Suzuki) 51.345; 8. G. Lavilla (Ducati) 51.439; 9. J. Reynolds (Suzuki) 51.497; 10. J. Buckingham (Suzuki) 51.537
