No Budget Cup Racing Gets ACU Support

It is designed to offer maximum track time and fun for the bare minimum of costs and should be particularly attractive to track day enthusiasts who are looking for their first taste of racing.

The No Budget Cup is for total race novices and the ACU has developed a new Sport Endurance licence which is available to No Budget Cup first timers. This ensures racers have complete peace of mind without complex or expensive procedures. Riders with an ACU Clubman licence are eligible to race in the No Budget Cup, but racers who hold or have held an International or National licence in the last 10-years are not permitted to compete.

If you can stretch your budget, the organisers are also offering track day sessions in association with Fast Bikes magazine which run on the same day as each No Budget Race, offering plenty of quality on-track time as part of the series.

The plan is for a five round UK series in 2010, spread between the UK’s Lydden Hill, Pembrey and Anglesey circuits.

The rules are simple and designed to keep costs as low as possible. Race bikes must be made between 1990 and 2000 inclusive and each race is a three hour endurance event with teams of two-three riders per bike. The grid is currently limited to 48-bikes and entry is £380 per team per round with a one-off £75 membership fee per person.

The No Budget Cup is already a huge success in Belgium attracting large entries and providing entertaining entry level racing. It is being brought to the UK by Jane Omorogbe, the motorcycle columnist for The Sun and ex-British Superbikes TV presenter who is fanatical about racing.

“The No Budget Cup is now up and running and inviting entries,” explained Omorogbe. “Do you want to try racing for the first time in an unintimidating, friendly environment? Perhaps you just want more track time, more value for money? If you have a couple of mates and a nineties bike, then the No Budget Cup is your thing and you can divide the already low costs between you. Every one who pays rides. There’s no qualifying time to be achieved, but there are only 48 places!

“The involvement of the ACU means that the No Budget Cup is properly regulated, organised and insured; this is a serious offer for British riders to start racing and enjoy motorcycle sport.”
