MARTIN BAGS SIXTH IN JUNIOR TT

The 26 year old from Kirmington in Lincolnshire, running as number one on the road once again, was hoping for better luck and at Glen Helen on lap one, he held fourth place just three seconds down on the lead. At the end of the opening lap, Martin still held fourth just two seconds off third place with a lap of 122.659mph.

The 600cc Honda rider held station throughout lap two and headed for the pit stop well placed for a push towards his second podium of the week, after finishing third in Monday's Superstock TT. At the end of lap three, Guy was still in fourth place and lying in wait if any of the podium placed riders slipped up and that was still the case at Ramsey Hairpin on the final lap.

However, without the mileage that the other riders had completed on their 600s on Monday, Martin slipped back into the clutches of the titanic battle behind him involving Ian Lougher and Gary Johnson and on the final run over the Mountain; he dropped back to sixth as the times were corrected as they crossed the finish line.

As a result, Guy was just over five seconds down on Johnson in fifth with the first four places being taken by winner Bruce Anstey ahead of Ian Hutchinson with Ryan Farquhar claiming third ahead of Lougher.

Rider, Guy Martin:
"We didn't quite have enough steam on board today, the bike was a little bit slower than I was hoping for but I was still trying my nuts off. Everyone else out there had four laps to dial their bikes in on Monday and we missed out on that but at least we're here and it's another finish. I'm now completely focusing on Friday with the big bike and I'll get a lap in this afternoon to make sure we're fully sorted for the Senior which I'll be going all out to win. It's been a bit of a frustrating week but as they say 'when the going gets tough, the tough get going'. All comes to he who waits."

Team Owner, Shaun Muir:
"After Monday, we're happy enough with a finish but our package simply wasn't strong enough today. Guy said the wind was affecting the performance of the bike but there was no living with the leaders and given our lack of time on the 600, sixth place isn't a disaster and we'd sooner have that than it parked up at The Highlander on lap one, that is for certain. We'll now hope that we can have a strong run in Friday's Senior race as we know we have the pace to win that."
