August Auinger to ride Pre
TT Classic
|
|
Twice former British Grand Prix winner August Auinger
of Austria is to make his Isle of Man debut in the Pre-TT Classic on the 4.25
mile Billown circuit this May.
Third in the 1985 125cc World
championship behind Fausto Gresini and Pierpaolo Bianchi, Auinger won the
Swedish, German and British GPs on Monnets.
Riding for famed tuner
Harold Bartol in 1986, he scored a British GP double at Silverstone and also
went on to win the San Marino round at Misano - finishing fourth in the series
won by Luca Cadalora.
One of Austria's most successful ever road
racers, Auinger will be astride a 500cc Molnar Manx Norton for his Pre-TT
Classic debut, contesting the Singles race on Saturday, May 26, and the Senior
Classic on the Bank Holiday Monday.
Other overseas entries include
Auinger's brother Ernst and fellow countryman Johann Furbook, along with
Sweden's Eije Weeiden and the Australian father and son sidecar crew of Dave
and Peter Large.
Top British names include Bill Swallow, Glen English,
John Loder, Terry Kermode, Derek Whalley, Les Trotter and sidecar veteran Dick
Hawes.
Practising for the 2001 Pre-TT De Montfort Classic is due to
commence on the Friday evening of May 25.
