Senior Race Day will remain
a Bank Holiday

Senior Race Day will remain a bank holiday despite the
cancellation of the TT, while school holidays planned for the festival won't be
changing. There had been some confusion surrounding this year's Senior Race Day
on Friday, June 8 - which traditionally marks the last day of racing - in the
build-up to the announcement by Chief Minister Donald Gelling on
Tuesday.
But a spokesman for the chief minister's office said there was
never a question of the bank holiday being cancelled as it is a statutory
holiday passed by Tynwald.
Meanwhile, director of education Ralph Cowin
said his office had received many calls from parents asking whether the school
holidays during the TT fortnight had been changed following the cancellation of
the races.
But he said the holidays would go ahead as planned, meaning
schoolchildren will be off on theThursday and Friday of what would have been
practice week - May 31 and June 1 - and fromMonday, June 4 to Friday, June 8.
School will then re-open on Monday, June 11.
'We have had quite
a few calls from people linking it with the TT but they (the holidays) are
planned in advance and they are not changing,' explained Mr Cowin.
