Joey Book Launch Goes
Ahead
|
|
The publishers of Joey Dunlop's authorised biography
have decided to go ahead with the book launch during what would have been TT
fortnight.
A series of events in the Island are lined up to mark the
publication of Joey Dunlop His Authorised Biography, by Mac McDiarmid. All
royalties from the book will go to Joey's family.
Honda's racing
manager, Bob McMillan, who has written the foreword, will travel to the Island
for the launch.
He said: 'Joey was the greatest motorcycle road racer
the world has ever seen. We are delighted to be cooperating with publishers
Haynes, who are determined that this authorised official biography will be a
fine and lasting tribute to such a great rider.'
Despite the
cancellation of racing, the publishers have decided to press on with the launch
at the Empress Hotel, Douglas, on June 1, 7pm-8pm and 9pm-10pm.
This
will include a talk by Mr McMillan. Tickets are £3 and are available from
Ottakar's in Strand Street, Douglas, or by phoning 01624 679051.
On June 5, 11am-12.30pm, there will be a book signing session at
the Lexicon bookshop in Douglas, with another book-signing at W. H. Smith,
Douglas, from 2pm-3.30pm on June 7.
The launch of a set of Joey Dunlop
stamps is also going ahead. Philatelic bureau manager Dot Tilbury said: 'The
decision to cancel the racing is very disappointing but entirely
understandable.
However we are full steam ahead with the stamps being
released on May 17, and it is a chance for all the disappointed fans to have a
very special memento of the greatest TT rider of all time, especially in the
year the TT was cancelled.'
