The Department of Transport applied for detailed permission to build the hut at the Verandah for use during closed-roads events like the TT and Manx Grand Prix. The planning committee approved the application but insisted the plinth below the window and rebatement walls to the footpath must be finished in Manx stone. Local Manx Grand Prix rider Brian Kneale has won the tender for the shelter which is due to be finished by the allocated dates for the 2001 TT.
