Emergency Laws to Hold
Southern 100
|
|
Emergency laws are to be rushed through parliament to allow the
Southern 100 motorbike races to take place later in the year. The
government has drafted a special bill to allow the event to be staged in
September if organisers are forced to abandon the traditional July date because
of fears over foot-and-mouth disease.

|
The Southern 100 committee fears the event, due to be
held on July 16-19, may have to be called off if the disease crisis has not
abated.
If it is it could go ahead on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday in
September. But road racing is not allowed on a Sunday so the government has
agreed the emergency bill just in case.
It will be given a first reading
at a special sitting of the House of Keys this week
