Castletown Board Backs Postponement of Southern 100
|
Castletown commissioners and the towns Chamber of
Trade have supported the decision to postpone the
Southern 100.
The road races scheduled to take place from July 16th
to the 19th became the latest victim of the foot and
mouth crisis last week.
Tynwald have passed legislation, which will allow
racing to take place on the Billown Circuit from
September 14th to the 16th should the epidemic clear
up in time.
The Chairman of the commissioners, Alwyn Collister,
believes the race organisers made the right decision.
'Obviously with the latest outbreak in the Lancashire
area, it was always likely this would happen' he said.
'In fact I don't think the Southern 100 Committee has
had any alternative but to postpone the races'.
'It goes without saying that the traders in the town
will be affected and the buzz in the town during that
week will also be missed'.
'Let's just hope that by September the position will
have improved and the races will be able to take
place'.
