Steam Packet's Record Drop in Passengers
|
Passenger figures for the Steam Packet were down
dramatically in the
month of May as a result of the TT being cancelled.
Passenger traffic for May 2001 was 5% down on last
year but vehicle
traffic was down a massive 28% compared with May 2000.
Despite this
blow, the passenger figure for the whole year is still
slightly up by
0.9% although vehicle traffic is down 6.2% for the
year.
A Steam Packet spokesman said 'This is entirely down
to the
cancellation of the TT races, a decision which was
entirely out of our
control'.
The Steam Packet is leading a major media campaign,
backed by the Isle
of Man Department of Tourism and Leisure, aimed at
getting the message
across that the Island is still open for business.
