TTWebsite gathering 31st May - MV - 01-06-2006

Well, what a fun night??

Pamela and I wouldlike to thank all responsible for making it happen.
Thats especially The Witch and Malcolm.
It was so good to meet people that were previously just names on here.
Pamela summed it up, "such lovely people!"
I was kept chuckling by comments from Cargo and tales of his own adventures and Larry and others!
Listening to Ian (TT fan) Charlie Hulse, the girls from Oz, Bill Snelling (well done to his good lady - Manx lady shooting champ!) all good stuff
I was suprised to see how tiny young Gail is!

I hope that I get to see you all again sometime.

This was indeed a highlight of the holiday....

We are off to Bray Hill for afternoon practice this afternoon and hope to see some of you there.
Then its off to see Ralph Dawson, a Manx friend from 30 yeasr ago!
Thanks for the number Mr Hogg...

Well, thats my rambling over!!

- John Foster - 01-06-2006

I second those comments!

Thanks again Malcolm and Helen.

Unfortunately, due to an earlier appointment, marshalling with the Gorse Lea Midges, I arrived late and missed most of the introductions. MV, were you sitting by Cargo? 'Apologies for not making myself known to you and Pamela, but you'll have recognised me by the measled (midge-bitten) complexion and the strong smell of midge-repellent. I sat opposite our Ozzie friends.

- Fitz - 01-06-2006

My sincere appologies for not making it last night, I really was looking forward to this too but MV knows my reasons and I hope he passed this onto Helen.

Hope to still catch up with a few people over the next few days Big Grin

- David Griffiths - 01-06-2006

Well done to the curmudgeonly Larry Devlin and his good lady Jane for making it, despite running the risk of missing their ferry home. More power to his slightly gashed elbow! Lol

- Hilary M - 01-06-2006

I am really pleased that you all had a great time, just wished that we could have been there. All I can do is race home to log onto the live timing and Manx Radio commentary, which is a real treat. We will catch up with you all soon.Enjoy the rest of the TT

- Stella - 01-06-2006

Heard the TT website gang get a mention on the manx radio this afternoon ! Big Grin

Hillary how do i log onto live timing please ?

thanx,
Stella

- Bill Snelling - 01-06-2006

Pat and I can only concur with the above messages; it was great to chat with and put faces to names that have become so familiar over the recent years.
Yes, Manx Radio's Charlie Lambert gave 'our' site a good plug today.

- Hilary M - 01-06-2006

Stella, look at http://www.iomtt.com and click on the live results and previous session times on the top left of the page.It will take you to a link to click on for live timing. It will be there as soon as practice or race commences. It is a wee bit difficult to follow to begin with, but you will get into it.It's great.

- Don Simons - 01-06-2006

I hope Midge Foster (the horizontal marshal) did not forget his glasses and make a spectacle of himself.

Thanx Hillary hadn`t spotted that ! Big Grin

- MV - 02-06-2006

I heard the Manx radio plug and was driving.
Was so suprised, I missed ralp Dawsons house and had to turn back!
What an evenig it was at Ralphs too.
I know ralph form staying at his parents hotel, the kenilworth, in the 70s.
Thanks MR Hog for putting us in touch!

Yes, John, that wa me by Cargo.

We had a great craic and laughed a lot.

I did spot you arrive and smiled, but it was a bit tricky negotiating the tables!
We had a super time.
I think Pamela was a bit uncertain before. She thought we would be a bit "anoraky", which I suppose we are, a little.
BUT, anoraks with lots of history, knowledge, passion and personalities!

Hope to see more of you all.
It was good being at the bottom of Nray and seeing the Witch in orange bib mode!
Power to your elbow Helen, you Charlie and the others.
Oh, and who was the great old chap?
Been a marshall for over 50 years but turned down this year?
What a character!!

It was intersting to hear the goings on about manning.
Hmmmm.
I think I will keep quiet aboiut some of what I heard...

Well, enjoy the rest of the TT, all

Oh, and good luck Molly....

Please excuse my ignorance, but where on the course IS Gorse lea and is it accessible to spectators.
Thats older ones like me!!MV

- Fitz - 02-06-2006

Mike,

Gorse Lea is between the Hawthorn Pub at Greeba and Ballacraine. It is accessable via Ballacraine but bring some decent footware for the Fields! Big Grin

Fitz.

- cargo - 02-06-2006

A jolly good night it was.
As for a tale about Larry I'll have the full story of just what exactly went on regarding his elbow when I get home. Unless of course Larry gets on here first and tells his version
I'm at the bottom of Bray tonight with the Witch and then back out to Gorselea ( great spot to watch but the marshalls are a little touchy) for the race on Saturday

- John Foster - 02-06-2006

MV,

The easy route to Gorse Lea is to drive out just past the Hawthorn, turn left into the very minor road, at Cronk Breck, and park in the first field on the right. Harold Leece is the most hospitable man on the planet, and opens his garden, toilet and fields to the public at TT and MGP. Gorse lea bend is just a few yards past Cronk Breck and you can get close to the course on Harold's land.

Your best viewing would be from Harold's front garden or nearby, and your wife might enjoy a tranquil stroll down the minor road to the old railway line, if she tires of the bikes.

Cronk Breck is featured in the spectator guide in the TT Programme.

Regards,
John

- John Foster - 02-06-2006

Who do you think you're calling touchy, Cargo? smilie

Thank you - ian huntly - 03-06-2006

A regretably late "thank you" to Malcolm and all the others for making the evening such a good one.. It was nice to meet our Ozzie contacts, Justine and Jan and I can now put faces to names.

The food was prepared well and I eventually got mine after confusion after I had to take a mobile call from the Memsahib. The "servants" took my meal away and when I returned from my essential call I was meal-less.

However it was memorable, and I am so glad I could make it not only to the evening Do but to the Isle of Man also !!!

Have a great TT and hope there are more to come !!

IAN TTFAN

- thewitch - 08-06-2006

Thank you all for coming. It was great craic wasn't it?
Well, the planning for next year's event has started already, and I think you will all be impressed...bigger, better, more exciting...how will we cope!!

- MV - 08-06-2006

Helen,

it was great.
You are to be congratulated, and Malcolm.

Once the date is announced for next year, it will be in my diary.

So, lets have more next time.
It would be good if we could get the odd rider along, too.
But, I will be happy to see the "odd" board members!

MV

- cargo - 08-06-2006

Before Foster, Simons and Devlin get in first I just want to say that one odd rider (MGP) was there. Two if you count Devlin..........?

In fact some might say they /he were very odd.
