hamish ross couldnt run a 'pee' up in okells brewery, i emailed him about the luggage being retrieved when the vessel docked at l'pool as to why passengers had to wait for an hour for our luggage, his reply was it depends on the tide what a joke?

I have just been told by a certain Manx person that 2007 may not be as "FULLY" booked as was originally hoped....
Yes, it is reported that deposits on boat fares have been placed and hotels are supposedly fully booked but it is a fact that many punters drop out each year when they find out the fare or have problems taking the time off work....
I'm booked, of course, but I already have had a group contact me who have decided to miss the TT "because it will be a nightmare" stating that if it is as booked as reported there will be no where to park and the roads will be a bike park..
Will it be a nightmare or have the Highways lot got something up their sleeve .....
TT Course one way ALL the way round ????
Douglas Promenade will be triple parked and there will be camp sites on the beach ?
I like to think positive but at my age I rationalize more than I did when Ar were a lad !! The Island is only 33x12 !!
Oversell can do a lorra lorra damage and I hope the Island is not falling into this trap. Be honest, is it all as booked as reported ?? If so you won't be able to take many more or the Island will almost sink like it did in the 50's and 60's
When I take my car, can I get to places I got to in previous years ? Will the pubs be so full I will have to wait ages for food and drink. Will Ramsey be out of bounds to cars ??
Please read my rantings more than once and then start a sensible string to comment on my notes.
I am looking forward to 2007 but I want it to be a memorable centenary, not one that is remembered as a shambles !
Please do not think I am being critical, I am a longstanding (6'6") TTFAN after all, but.........................

I think you have put in words a lot of my own thoughts. Think too, what it will be like for Manx residents trying to go about their daily business, working, shopping, parking etc. Hope they've got it right.

Have to say I was quite surprised to be able to book the campsite so easily this time of year. I booked a campsite for Le Mans '07 back in March, and they told me "I have a good chance on tickets" :shock:
Maybe the Centenary has scared people away, as they think it will become too busy?

I was a bit surprised too, when you booked it, as I had been given the impression all campsites were full. Maybe he has given the entire farm over to tents!

TTwebsite hopes to have a special occasion for the centenary too. Ours will be a bit different...less pompous and more fun!!

I would like to be slightly serious and say that what these
giys do in here for our benefit as a group (and for the TT itself!)
Should not be underestimated in any way.
If anyone has a bright idea, speak up.
My feeling is, as I have said, that the simple format of this year
is a great way for people to meet and chat.
I have had one idea though.
How about a lap of the circuit in a private bus/coach with comments
on the way round. Preferably during practice week before it gets
really busy. By comments, I mean a kind of informal commentary.
One person who would be great for this job would be Cargo, I am
sure.
Does the idea have any merit?

Over the last few years it has been interesting to latch onto groups of "TT Virgins" who are making their first ever visit over....
Without trying to bore them with stories of nostalgic source ("EEE, it were like this in the olden days") I have found it important to hear for what they had saved their money and made the trip to the Isle of Man and how they interpreted the whole TT festival period.
Nostalgia in many subjects, not only the TT, seems to mean a lot less than it did a few years ago and I feel, as a regular attender, that I (we) must not fall into a trap of talking about good old days when we are trying to maintain an interest in a road race series on the Isle of Man which is trying to develope a new feeling.
We'll never bring back those magic days when the TT was a GP, or when most of us made the trip just to breath the same air as Joey Dunlop.....
Who can really describe the wonders of early morning practice to todays fans who drink to all hours and sleep in until lunchtime ??
Without waffling on any more, I hope those of you who are TTWEBSITE won't drench everyone with "This is how it was" but "This is how it is and evermore shall be"
I hope you in admin take my point and examine what is to be..
A proper balance rather than you concentrating on the oldies, making it seem that people who are attending in this decade are getting second best to what we saw in our day. Fans are coming to see todays TT concept not going through a time warp.

There are far to many horror stories of what 2007 is going to be like.....
Don't forget, in the past, the Isle of Man used to accomodate three and four times the number visitors it gets now with no problems. They just haven't got the hotels to do it now.
1.There won't be a "massive" influx of extra people for the Centenary.
The Steam Racket won't be able to run many more ferries than they did for TT 2006. The only increases will be early arrivals (but most of them will leave early to)
2. There won't be a major parking problems, no worse than the last few years anyway.
For the same reason as number one...How will they get there ?
3. The IOMSP(and Hamish Ross) were not responsible for the cancellation of the 'floating hotel'
The Norwegian owners of the proposed "flotel" pulled the plug after the Steam Packet had invested a lot of time and money, taking bookings etc. The ship is now going to cruise the Norwegian coast and fjords instead.
At least the much maligned IOMSP 'tried' to do something to help alleviate the shortage of beds on the Island.

Helen, I guessed YOU would know a suitable crew!
The more I think about this, the more I like the idea!
I for one (and that includes Pamela)
would be happy to pay for such a trip with such a
great bunch. To travel slowly around the course with
an informed commentary and anecdotes would be great!
Maybe it could be partially subsidised but with
anything we could raise (For the Joey foundation or better still, the helicopter fund?)
I dont suggest a pub crawl, but a break half way at Rosies would
be brilliant. Yes, I KNOW its my local, but I feel that some people
who are south of the Island or Douglas based dont get to visit
the wonderful Sulby Glen would enjoy it.
Any other comments?

This thread has now caught my attention.
I don't know that I would have enough knowledge to do a commentary for a bus trip round the course. Barry Wood or even Larry would be better choices.......I'd be glad to help them.
A real star turn would be Ray Knight one of the best guided laps I ever did was with him.

I am not suprised to hear that Ray Knight is good at that kind of thing.
Talking of anecdotes...
My first digs in Douglas, back in 1967 happened to be the same
as Mr. Knight, well known TT class winner.
Meanwhile, back on the bus!
If this ever gets off the ground, I wonder if its possible (in the Island)
to hire a posh bus with a toilet? It IS nearly 38 miles you know?!
A long way without a comfort break for us older chaps!
