Well named and shamed!
'No surprise there. Didn't they announce their "money-spinning intentions" very publicly last year?

Can anyone post their other charges?

Those wishing to use the fields either side of Creg to walk to vantage points like Kepple gate or Brandish are also being charge £2-00 to cross by the Land owners. Does Trevor Bains not own the land?

RE: The Rip off Prize - boakesey - 03-06-2008

Chatting to a guy (first time visitor) yesterday who claimed he wanted to walk up the public footpath up the back of the Creg and was stopped by 2 young lads demanding a tenner (sic!) admission! He refused and pointed out it was a public right of way and that no-one could stop him going up there, but that a lot of (mainly overseas) visitors were falling for the con.

If this particular story is true, then I doubt it's anything to do with the landowners/tenants, but more to do with a couple of lads out to make a fast buck.

Whatever the case, this chap said he was disgusted and that he won't be coming back to the TT again, despite my attempts to reassure him that we're not all thieving, rip-off merchants.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

It has been confermed by Radio TT this morning that the landowners have put a charge on of £2-00 to use the path

RE: The Rip off Prize - David Griffiths - 03-06-2008

There was a sign next to the gate where the £2 per person was being charged on Saturday to say that the money collected would go towards the cost of hiring the portaloos. They must be the most expensive portaloos in history!

Although it may be worth it - the wages for the person emptying those after a long day of racing must be astronomical Big Grin

That's £8 less than what these lads were collecting. Alan Sugar are you there?

It's also (probably) illegal to charge for use of a public footpath - although charging to use the "facilities" is ok, if a little expensive - remember when to used to have to put money in the slot to use the public conveniences?

2p to pee, as someone once said! There's inflation for you. Big Grin

RE: The Rip off Prize - boakesey - 03-06-2008

At last, the real reason for a certain Mr Martin's late arrival on the start line on Saturday is revealed......

.... he couldn't find any change for the portaloo!

Smiles.

£2 towards the cost of hiring portaloos?? Simple don't hire them.
There are toilets in the pub surely? Be better value to buy a pint and p**s it down the pub loo?
Better still leave a steamming 'richard' on the step smilie

The pub and its toilets are restricted to the VIP guests at the Creg - the plebs have to use the beer tent and the portaloos.

No, FC, the portaloos are provided by the Creg - ACUE has no input, AFAIK

Apparently this public house is closed to the public on corporate days.

What a Bargain - places still available:

Blimey only £195, surely there aren't really still spaces available?? You must have it wrong?
I presume the beer tent it run by the people at the creg? Surley that makes enough money to allow people somewhere to p**s it out for free?
Still at the end of the day it is a business and they know what they are doing.

Potaloos are in the fields and have nothing to do with the Creg, the owner was interviewed by Radio TT over in.

I'll stand corrected there, I thought from the original posting they were the cregs. Sorry.

RE: The Rip off Prize - spannerman - 04-06-2008

Lets hope the IOM inland Revenue pursues the land owners for tax that they will or wont declare, over the years i go to the Cregg at least twice during TT fortnight for a late night meal or drinks, as they are now charging bikers to pay £2 to use the toilets i along with my freinds will boycott that pub forever, i hope everyone else does the same.
