FIAT leaves Yamaha MotoGP team - Malcolm - 01-01-2011 It doesn’t come as a surprise, but - with the passing of 2010 - FIAT has now officially confirmed that its title sponsorship of the factory Yamaha MotoGP team has come to an end. FIAT joined forces with Yamaha (and specifically Italian hero Valentino Rossi) at the start of 2007 and went on to win the MotoGP World Championship in 2008 (Rossi), 2009 (Rossi) and 2010 (Jorge Lorenzo). FIAT is rumoured to be moving with Rossi to Ducati, albeit as a personal sponsor, while Yamaha is yet to announce a new replacement title sponsor. Yamaha has signed Texan Ben Spies to ride alongside Lorenzo in 2011.
