East Coast Racing confirm Supersport line up - Malcolm - 24-01-2011 East Coast Racing has today (Monday) confirmed they will return to the 2011 Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship and have signed roads specialist Gary Johnson and former Metzeler National Superstock 600 champion Lee Johnston to compete onboard the championship-winning Honda's. Johnson lifted the 2005 British Supersport Cup title and after running in the Evo class this season is seeking championship glory alongside competing for the team at the major international road races. Johnson said: "I can't wait to get on the track with the East Coast Racing team. I have a point to prove this year and want to come back strong, get some good results in Supersport and also on the roads and get everything back on track. I get on really well with Phil and the team and now can't wait to get started." Johnston won the Superstock 600 title in 2008 and has been progressing in the Supersport class over the past seasons, but is looking forward to the new challenge. Johnston added: "I started racing in Supersport in 2009 and had a good start to my career in the class but last year I ended up swapping teams half way through the season and missing a round. I spoke with the team and we came to a good arrangement, the Hondas are a proven package and I think will suit my riding style. I'm very pleased to be part of the East Coast Racing team, I can't wait to get testing and back racing at Brands Hatch in April!" Team Manager and Owner Phil Reed from East Coast Construction concluded: "2010 was a learning year for the team and we had a few riders come and go and towards the end of the year we were never out of the top six. I have been watching Gary on the track and on the roads and got to know him well in Macau where we managed to sort out a deal. I was pleased to speak with Lee when he called and think we've got a very good little team for our assault on the 2011 Championship. We will be going testing in March and getting the riders comfortable with the bikes and team and ready to race at Brands Hatch at the end of April." |
