'Bushy's' beer tent site to go out to tender - Malcolm - 20-11-2012

It's become a fixture at the TT, and something of an icon on Douglas promenade during festival fortnight.
But the 'Bushy's' beer tent at the Bottleneck car park may appear under a different moniker in future, after Douglas Borough Council decided to put the site out to tender.
Council Leader David Christian told Marian Kenny Bushy's had done a great job over the years, but the council wanted to make sure ratepayers were getting value for money:

We need money.....use the TT brand
We have over spent........use the TT brand
We have f****d up and in the sh**.......use the TT brand
We havent supported the MGP.........use the TT brand
We have wasted money on the film industry.......use the TT brand
We need more funds into our space programme.......use the TT brand
Watch out for the epitome of rebranding the Isle of Man will soon be

Bushys protesters take to Facebook
A Facebook group set up to protest against moves to put the Bushy’s TT Beer Tent site out to tender has attracted more than 1,100 members in less than 24 hours.
The page, entitled “The beer tent is Bushy’s and it should stay Bushy’s”, was set up after Douglas Council revealed it would open up a bidding process.
The beer tent run by Martin Brunnschweiler’s brewery became a landmark after the closure of Bushy’s Pub on Victoria Street in Douglas.
But the council says it may consider other uses for the Bottleneck Car Park on Douglas Promenade for TT next year.

dedhummm, that just about sums it up . All these new fangled money spin ideas might have a reverse affect on the tt, it will for us old boys i fear. Pleased my memory still works,i can,t handle change,but the new generation are probably now used to being screwed for every dime. Trouble is,the people responsible for the changes probably don,t need to count their dimes. Time will tell.

call me old fashioned but why do you need a beer tent on the prom its ok in the paddock but isnt there any pubs in douglas?
