Please all read - Anonymous - 13-04-2003 For some time I have been getting large amounts of spam. Recently it has included a lot of salacious stuff. I simply delete this, but I am aware it may also be going to young people who access this and other bike bulletin boards. If you are posting, while ttwebsite has always wanted you to put your email address, so we know you are genuine, I would like to suggest you do something else. Please fill in your profile...see the top of the page for this...and then, instead of your email address, just give us your username. This way you will not be targeted by the spam merchants, but we will know it is you. It would be much harder for them to access every profile individually. I think they have software which simply lifts every address off the bulletin board and adds it to their mailing list. I get some stuff at least a dozen times, so they are constantly re-collecting our addresses. Keep posting on the board, but be aware that all such boards are trawled by these creeps. This is completely outside the control of ttwebsite or the other sites. Ttwebsite never pass on your details to anyone unless you ask us to. Re: Please all read this too - Anonymous - 13-04-2003 I don't think I made one point properly. When you create your profile, PLEASE include your email address. Then, when you post a mailing, miss out the email address bit, but use your username in the top line. If you want replies, you can safely include your email address within the message. Spammers are not going to open every mail to look for addresses. Re: Please all read this too - Anonymous - 13-04-2003 Hi Helen. Is this what you mean? Messages about money from Africa and augmentation have been coming my way, too. Some people don't like postings without addresses, though. Re: Please all read this too - Anonymous - 13-04-2003 i keep getting e-mails about male organ enlargement??? i can't even play an instrument, so why would i own one? ade! Re: Please all read this too - Anonymous - 13-04-2003 I get those too! I find them even more mystifying, not being male. What can they pssibly mean! Re: Please all read this too - Anonymous - 13-04-2003 One useful email promised to increase my mangina. Maybe I should have bought it and tried it on the cat. Bike content: I put a Slimline Domi tank and a Yamaha seat on the bike. Also a back mudguard that may be a front mudguard from the notorious BSA B50 Gold Star. Do you want to see a picture, Helen? Have you eaten? Re: Please all read - Anonymous - 13-04-2003 Helen i also are getting loads of spam but hopefully it will be sorted. Re: Please all read - Anonymous - 14-04-2003 Yes, I get heaps of spam about enlargments and how to get out of debt but who knows where it all comes from? I have a principle of putting my name on anything I post anywhere. I am not frightened to put my name on what I say or think so I just have to wear all the rubbish I receive. Yahoo has a filtering system which helps a bit but spam is just something we have to deal with if we want to use the internet. My bigger problem with the internet is self righteous people and angry people without a sense of humour. If everyone would lighten up a bit life would be much more fun. Thanks for the tip Helen. Re: Please all read - Anonymous - 14-04-2003 It becomes a pain when, like recently, I am away for a couple of weeks and come back to hundreds of pieces of spam. My main concern, however, is the hard porn stuff. We have some very young contributors, and this is a back door way of getting to them.Hopefully none of them have credit cards, as I assume you have to pay to get the nasty stuff. Re: Please all read - Anonymous - 14-04-2003 My problem isnt so much spam but trying to log on[aol] is anyone else having problems, i phoned aol and they say its a problem with BT satelite.A few times in the last few months i have had cause to contact them but the answers always the same ' the fault lies with BT'guess who i pay for the use of the web AOL. Re: Please all read - Anonymous - 14-04-2003 Pykey, try changing your access numbers, I used to have to wait ages to log on to AOL, I deleted the fist few phone no's and added a few new one's, its fine now. John Re: Please all read - Anonymous - 15-04-2003 Thanks John its ok now seems the fault today was BT. Re: Please all read - Anonymous - 15-04-2003 It normally is . . . . . . . ! |
