Ellison & Walker sign with GBmoto Kawasaki for BSB - Malcolm - 31-10-2013 Experienced race winners James Ellison and Chris Walker will join forces for the 2014 MCE British Superbike Championship at GBmoto Kawasaki. GBmoto has secured the services of multiple British Superbike Championship race winners James Ellison and Chris Walker to ride its new Kawasaki machinery in the 2014 championship, it has been announced. Former runner-up Ellison, who returned to BSB in 2013 after a stint in MotoGP, joins the team fresh from scoring three wins en route to fourth place in this year's series with Milwaukee Yamaha. "I'm really excited about this deal as I know how good this team is,” said Ellison. “I've watched the team progress and being up against the Kawasakis week in, week out, I know just how strong those bikes are, and I can't wait to get my leg over the new ZX-10R now as I've heard so many good things about it. “It's great to get a deal done so early; it gives us time to plan and test. Matt Llewellyn is a great crew chief so there are so many positives. It's an exciting time for me with a new baby on the way and I am excited for next year's BSB assault. I genuinely think together we are capable of fighting for the title." Set to embark on his 12th season in the series, experienced four-time BSB runner-up Walker comes to GBmoto Kawasaki with considerable knowledge of the ZX-10R under his belt. "I am already really excited about next season and I feel that the combination of the team, the bike and myself and James as team-mates puts us in a really good position ready for when the season kicks off. I have ridden Kawasakis for most of my career so this is the ideal fit for me and a good chance to have another go at making the Showdown. Myself and James were team-mates in 2002 and it is good for us to be working together again because he is a race winning and championship contending rider and that will only stoke the Stalker fire when we get on track!" GBmoto, which made its BSB debut in 2012, has competed with Honda machinery over the last two seasons but will make the switch to Kawasaki next season in an effort to establish itself as a formidable front runner. Team principal Mark Smith-Halvorsen said: "This really is a 'game changer' for us as a team. We see the link with Kawasaki as fantastic on a number of levels, which really excites me. Technically, the bikes are second to none and I believe this will produce a huge jump forward in terms of results. “To have been able to sign riders of the quality of James and Chris is another big shot in the arm for us; they bring with them a wealth of experience and know what it takes to fight at the front. There's lots of excitement about the camp and much work to be done, but the whole team is raring to go!" GBmoto enjoyed an improved 2012 season with Dan Linfoot and Peter Hickman at the helm, the pair proving regular top ten contenders with a best finish of sixth place coming courtesy of the latter at Oulton Park . |
