A TT festival originally planned for 2013 will take place this year at Jurby airfield, organisers have announced.

Motofest 2014 will run from May 28 to senior race day on June 6 and will provide camping, entertainment and motor sport.

Commercial director Tina Carter told the Isle of Man Examiner it’s ‘definitely going ahead’.

She said: ‘We are really excited about it. We have taken 18 months at this.

‘We had to cancel last year because we didn’t get planning permission for Creg-ny-Baa. But Jurby is a better site anyway, we can do a lot more there.’

Planning approval (13/91242/C) has been granted for the temporary change of use of the land.

The festival site will consist of catering, bars, music venues and big screens for live timing and commentary.

There will be a range of motor sport entertainment, including from Straightliners which will run sprints, top speed runs and drag and drift events.

Organisers of the UK Stunt Championships will be put on displays.

At night, there will be music, chat shows and showcases.

TT fans will get the chance to hear from their favourite riders at question and answer sessions.

A selection of UK tribute acts will be brought over to the island, complemented with a range of local bands.

And there will be competitions for the audience to participate in, such as bike balancing and wheel changing.

There will be camping for up to 1,000 people, including a family area.

In the bid, it says the event will ‘give TT fans the option of something different and all on the one site’.

It continues: ‘We have examined many locations for this event and each time return to Jurby.

‘It has the space for the festival and camping, traffic management is easy, and there is plenty of hard-standing for both the parking and motor sport on site. ‘

A sponsor for the festival is due to be announced shortly, and there will be a launch event.
