Michael Dunlop clinches Superstock pole

Michael Dunlop has qualified on pole position for the Superstock races at the Vauxhall International North West 200.

Dunlop put his MD Racing BMW S1000RR on the top spot with a speed of 120.093mph to narrowly edge out Mar-Train Racing’s Alastair Seeley on the Kawasaki ZX-10R by a few hundredths of a second.

Third place went to 13-time winner Michael Rutter on the Bathams BMW, while Yeovil man Martin Jessopp was fourth on his Riders Motorcycles BMW.

Simon Andrews (Ice Valley BMW) and Tuesday’s pacesetter Horst Saiger from Austria (Kawasaki) were the top six.

Kiwi Bruce Anstey on the Valvoline Padgett’s Honda and Manxman Conor Cummins (Honda) rounded out the first eight.

In the Supertwin class, Fermanagh’s Lee Johnston (East Coast Kawasaki) was fastest at 107.85mph from Keith Amor on the KMR SGS International Kawasaki at 107.36mph.

Ivan Lintin was third quickest on the time sheets with Michael Dunlop fourth on the MD Racing Kawasaki.

Dunlop was a winner in the class at the Cookstown 100 in April and will be aiming to clinch his maiden international Supertwin win on Thursday evening.

Roads close on Thursday at 5.15pm for the first three races for Supersport, Supertwin and Superstock machines, with the first event scheduled for a 6pm start on the north coast.
