2015 MotoGP cancelled at Donnington - Steady the Edward - 10-02-2015

Donnington has announced that they have had to back out of running the event as the Circuit of Wales are unable to come up with the money they were contracted to pay , interesting didn't Donnington have similar problems when they lost the event to Silverstone ?? What goes around comes around , or something like that

British Grand Prix in jeopardy as Donington Park pulls out

The 2015 British Grand Prix has been put in jeopardy as the relationship between Donington Park and the Circuit of Wales has been broken off just six months before the event.

Last year the Circuit of Wales signed a five-year deal to host the UK’s sole MotoGP round but with no infrastructure in place for 2015, a deal was made with Donington Park to host the event on CoW’s behalf.

It’d now seem that deal is off as the Circuit of Wales has failed to meet payment deadlines, according to a statement released by Donington Park today.

“The Board of Directors and Staff of Donington Park Racing Limited (‘DPRL’) are greatly disappointed to have to report today that the Circuit of Wales company, and its new subsidiary GP15 Limited, have as yet been unable to complete their agreement with DPRL, nor meet long planned payment deadlines, in order to set in motion the operation of the 2015 British Motorcycle Grand Prix, MotoGP™ at Donington Park,” the statement read.

“Despite DPRL’s best efforts, the time lost with CoW being unable to complete the funding arrangements has resulted in delays in almost all of the event’s critically important operational plans, from track works to equipment hire. Therefore, in the judgment of the Board of DPRL, this current position could jeopardise the safe and successful running of the 2015 British MotoGP at Donington to such an extent, that both the commercial risks and the lack of time are now too great to allow Donington to proceed. Therefore Donington Park must withdraw from any further participation. Consequently, the 2015 British round of the FIM MotoGP World Championship will not now be held at Donington Park on August 30th 2015.”

Any fans who have already bought tickets for the event need not worry. Donington has guaranteed that anyone who has purchased tickets via Donington themselves (and their agent See Tickets) will receive a full refund.

“The whole Donington team who have worked so hard here over the past six months to fulfil our part of the MotoGP planning are as disappointed as those many fans will be who wanted to see the event return to Donington Park”, said Christopher Tate, MD of Donington Park. “The position we are now in is of course frustrating and uncomfortable for all concerned.

“It is this week, way past any normal deadlines, when we - in partnership with CoW - would have been committing to major expenditures. CoW has made it clear to us that they are not now in a position to complete, so we have to withdraw and end the planned arrangement.”

The Circuit of Wales is contracted to hold a Grand Prix in the UK this year but with their funds seeming non-existent, Dorna may need to step in to find a solution. As the only viable alternative, Silverstone would seem favourite to take on the event but the biggest question is who will foot the bill?

The Circuit of Wales is disappointed to have been unable to reach a contractual agreement with Donington Park Racing Limited (DPRL) to host the British round of the 2015 Motorcycle Grand Prix World Championship.

After initially agreeing Heads of Terms with the board of DPRL in September 2014, both parties were subsequently unable to agree further terms to form a legal contract. Contrary to claims by DPRL that Circuit of Wales is unable to meet the funding arrangements, we are unwilling to provide the significant funding that DPRL required for the necessary track upgrades to host the British Grand Prix without a signed contractual agreement in place. We have all of the funding necessary in place to promote and host the 2015 race in the UK. All funding for the flagship Circuit of Wales regeneration development in Blaenau Gwent is on track with works due to start later this year following the outcome of the public enquiry in March.

The Circuit of Wales will continue to promote the British round of the FIM MotoGP™World Championship and is fully committed to delivering the event later this year.

Silverstone to host 2015 & 2016 British MotoGP

Silverstone will announce a two-year deal to host the British Grand Prix after an agreement between the Circuit of Wales and Donington Park was terminated sixth months before the event.

Bike Social exclusively revealed details leaked from an internal memo yesterday. An official announcement is expected imminently.

The memo reads:

“I’m very pleased that SCL [Silverstone Circuit Ltd] has been able to announce today that it has agreed with Circuit of Wales that MotoGP will run at Silverstone in 2015 and 2016 – and on a basis that makes commercial sense for SCL. As we have been very keen to retain a strong ‘bike’ presence at Silverstone, we see this as an important step forward”.

The Circuit of Wales signed a ten-year deal to host the British Grand Prix last year, but with no infrastructure in place they were forced to find another venue for the 2015 event. Initially this contract went to Donington Park, but issues in regards to who was responsible for the necessary circuit improvements led to deal being terminated.

Subsequent building delays mean the circuit will now no longer be ready in time for 2016, hence the two-year agreement with Silverstone.

Silverstone has hosted the British Grand Prix since 2009.

They've confirmed that they've replaced the meeting with one at Cadwell and do not intend to go back on that now that Donington is 'free' again.

sticky I think most of the club would like to do Donnington as we already have a Cadwell but after getting launched from Donnington so it could be resurfaced for the Moto GP and MSV giving the extra Cadwell it would be very wrong to excrement on MSV's help.

Mike Dommett said over on Steve's Place that BEMSEE wouldn't change the arrangement with Cadwell as MSV had been able to help at short notice, so it's more lost revenue for Donington.

I hope there aren't any long term repercussions for Donny - this is all too remniscent of the F1 fiasco from a few years back.

Seems a bit ?? to me Donny say that CoW has not come up with money that was supposed to be paid , and CoW say they are not prepared to pay until there was a contact in place and as of yet Donny had not signed the contract , Mmm
so CoW look like not getting the revenue for the MotoGP for the next two years at least and that is hoping all goes well with the meetings next month any delays with that and they could be loosing three years revenue , the estimated cost was said to be 300 mil and that money was being put up on the predicted business plan of having the revenue from 10 years of running the MotoGP now they are to loose 2 probably 3 years that leaves a short fall of between 20%to 33% of forecasted potential earnings so does that put in jeperdy the whole COW venture ?? .

I don't know enough about it Nev to be honest but it just looks a bit ?? to me just reading the statements put out by Donny then by CoW they sort of contradict normal business practice some what , saddest thing is ending up with the MotoGp back at Silverstone I don't like that place

I doubt we will ever see it now due to all the restrictions etc. but I would have just loved to see a GP at Brands Hatch. Remember the WSB meetings when Foggy was there, up to 120,000 spectators !!

I think they should run it at Scarborough, pay the £500.000 hosting fee, and make it a round of the TT World Series.

I like that one !! lol get that sorted and I will go back to marshalling there , and would even turn up early to watch the bun fight as they fight for space in the pits , Ha Ha Ha bring it on
