Byrne snatches top spot from Brookes by 0.241s at Snetterton - Malcolm - 26-05-2015
Josh Brookes looked set to hold the position at the top of the times in the second MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship official test session at Snetterton this morning, but the Milwaukee Yamaha was toppled from the top by defending champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne in the final minutes.
The session had seen the leading trio trade places at the top of the times with Byrne, Brookes and championship leader James Ellison all pushing during the second outing on track. The trio continued to shuffle with Brookes and Milwaukee Yamaha holding the position into the closing two minutes before Byrne's last stint saw him post a time of 1m:48.343s to move ahead after proving he was unaffected by this morning's crash. Brookes had held off Ellison in third, but Honda Racing's Jason O'Halloran moved up the order in the second session to fourth place, pushing Moto Rapido Ducati's Jakub Smrz down to fifth whilst Stuart Easton just missed out on the top five in sixth. Chris Walker was the fastest of the Be Wiser Kawasakis in seventh, narrowly ahead of Danny Buchan and Christian Iddon, whilst Peter Hickman rounded out the top ten on his return from injury.
