Solo & Sidecar Champions Attend Southern 100 Dinner - Malcolm - 29-02-2016 Southern 100 Solo Champion Guy Martin and Sidecar Champions Tim Reeves & Mark Wilkes were the Guests of Honour at the Southern 100 Annual Dinner, held at the Best Western Palace Hotel & Casino on Saturday 20th February.
Both Tim Reeves and Mark Wilkes confirmed their intention to be on the start-line for the 2016 Isle of Man Steam Packet Southern 100 International Road Races, with Mark hoping to be back to full fitness after a recent road accident in New Zealand and having only been allowed to fly back to the UK two-days prior to the dinner! Meanwhile, Guy Martin having achieved his fourth Solo Championship victory last July has still to decide whether or not he will be on the Grid to defend his much coveted title in 2016. Guy Martin, Tim Reeves & Mark Wilkes Southern 100 Solo & Sidecar Champions 2015 (John Watterson) It what has already been widely publicised, the 33-year-old will defer making a decision on his involvement until he has completed the Tour Divide Cycle Race, which gets underway in May, and will cover more than 2,700 miles from Canada to New Mexico.
Interviewed by Manx Radio’s Tim Glover, the popular Killingholme rider is clearly still contemplating taking part, saying: "I love the Southern 100 and I would like to ride it, but I'll only make my decision during or after the cycle event," "All being well, it should be over by around June 15th. Who knows, by then I may never want to sit on a bike again." When Guy completed a ‘hat-trick’ of Southern 100 Solo Championship Wins in 2013, 2014 & 2015, he became only the second rider to achieve this, equalling the late, great Joey Dunlop’s triple victories in 1976, 1977 & 1978.
