The majority of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship field continued their second day of pre-season testing at Cartagena today (Friday) and as the contenders continued to improve their performances, Luke Mossey set the pace.

Mossey returns with the Quattro Plant Teccare Kawasaki team for a second consecutive season, and similar to his pre-season testing performance last year, he again hit the top of the times, after making a complete change to the settings after a challenging opening day.

Mossey said:

"We have basically today gone back to the settings that we had here last year and instantly it worked for us, so I am really pleased about that. We had a bit of a sticky situation yesterday afternoon when we went the wrong way with the setting and we have tried a few different options on the suspension this afternoon and that felt really good and we set our fastest time. I am really happy; I feel that we have some more left to improve our times again over the weekend."

Danny Buchan was the only other rider to hit the 1m:33s lap times on the Lloyds British Moto Rapido Ducati, feeling confident of improvements today as the team worked towards improving tyre longevity over race distance.

Leon Haslam was the first rider in the 1m:34s lap times, however his marginally advantage on the JG Speedfit Kawasaki was over an incredibly close pack of contenders including Shane 'Shakey' Byrne who made his first appearance at the test, and the Tyco BMW pairing of Michael Laverty and Christian Iddon.

James Ellison overturned his day to set his fastest lap in the final five lap run at the end of the day as he made more progress in the afternoon on the JG Speedfit Kawasaki, narrowly ahead of John Hopkins on the leading ePayMe Yamaha, Ryuichi Kiyonari on the first of the Bennetts Suzukis and Fillip Backlund on the second Quattro Plant Cool Kawasaki.

Tommy Bridewell was the first rider in the 1m:35s barrier on the second of the Bennetts Suzukis ahead of Peter Hickman, who continued to make strides forward in the afternoon and the Buildbase BMW pairing of Lee Jackson and Richard Cooper. Glenn Irwin and Stuart Easton completed the times after the second day, with the teams set to return to the track for the final two days over the weekend.
