By the way, Mr Taveri CONFIRMS that he rode the 125-5 in the 1966 TT, which was held late that year (Seamans Strike---no, not the goalkeeper, Madam !)

SEAMANS STRIKE! YES I REMEMBER IT WELL, DIFFICULT TO GET MY FERRY CROSSING CHANGED,WAS ORIGINALLY OFFERED A CROSSING FOR MY VAN AND BIKES ON A COASTER LOADED WITH COAL.HOWEVER IT WAS A GREAT ADVERT FOR THE TT AS MANY FAMILY HOLIDAYMAKERS WHO HAD NEVER SEEN M/C RACING IN THEIR LIFE SUDDENLY BECAME FANS,AS ONE HUSBAND WITH A WIFE AND 3KIDS TOLD ME 'THIS HAS MADE OUR HOLIDAY'

Don't remind me of the strike, I spent a month on the Island that year because the T.T was the fortnight before the Manx.
Went over for the T.T. with Albert Moule and Pat Walsh because I was lending my Aermacchi and CR93 to Pat and helping him out, then he stayed on for the Manx to help me out.
Do remember the big advantage was the trail of rubber and oil left on the road by the T.T. 'experts' gave us MGP boys a good line to follow.
Yes there was oil put down in those days from the primary chain drip feeds and exposed valves on Nortons, G50s and 7Rs thats why they used to wrap carpet underfelt around the frame tubes and rear mudguard to soak it up.

YOUR RIGHT TOM, MY MANX NORTON USED HAVE A PIECE OF CARPET UNDERLAY TO THE REAR OF INLET VALVE TO STOP THE OIL FROM THE CAMSHAFT PUSHERS GETTING ON THE REAR TYRE,THE OIL FROM THE PRIMARY CHAIN LUBE GOD KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT,MIND YOU IT WAS GRANITE CHIP ROADS OR PEA SHINGLE AND TAR IN THOSE DAYS,WHICH ALTHOUGH ROUGHER PROBABLY LESSENED THE RISK
