You know you've been listening to Roy Moore when you say.... - TTNeb - 11-06-2017 Went to Sheringham today and had a lovely walk along the beach and back over the cliff path. It was sunny with a brisk easterly breeze; temp about 22°Chris. As we sat on the bench, I said "It would be chilly if it wasn't so warm." Definitely been listening to Roy Moore! Anyone else made their own Mooreism? RE: You know you've been listening to Roy Moore when you say.... - BrianW - 13-06-2017 A moorism I don't understand is a "skutch," he says there's a skutch of riders coming implying that it means many, then a speed of a skutch over 100 mph implying it means a little, which is correct ? Can a manxie put me right please. RE: You know you've been listening to Roy Moore when you say.... - Alfie Noakes - 13-06-2017 a skutch is several / a few / handful but no defined number similar to the old english word - cotchel RE: You know you've been listening to Roy Moore when you say.... - BrianW - 13-06-2017 Thank you Alfie, I thought it was a few or similar, thanks for clearing that up. RE: You know you've been listening to Roy Moore when you say.... - Alfie Noakes - 13-06-2017 No problem - lots of evolved Manx words out there .. in winter you'd throw a scutch of coal on the fire and have a nice bravvag(brabbag), if you get called a govag or a mollag they aren't complimentary terms haha |
