Luke Mossey fired the JG Speedfit Kawasaki to the top of the times in the opening MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship free practice session at Thruxton, in a hectic session which saw the positions change constantly at the top of the times.

Mossey moved ahead in the closing stages of the session, displacing Quattro Plant FS-3 Kawasaki’s Billy McConnell from the top of the times as the Australian held off the leading Honda Racing Fireblade of Dan Linfoot.

Peter Hickman is gunning for his first podium of the year this weekend and he held fourth fastest for the Smiths Racing BMW team, narrowly ahead of Jakub Smrz who nudged Josh Brookes back into sixth place on the Anvil Hire TAG Yamaha. The Australian had enjoyed a spell at the top of the times earlier in the session and he held off Shane 'Shakey' Byrne at the chequered flag by 0.021s.

The Be Wiser Ducatis were locked together on the timesheets with Glenn Irwin, still recovering from injury, holding eighth place behind his team-mate with Jason O'Halloran and Moto Rapido Ducati’s John Hopkins completing the top ten.
