Report reveals major repairs required for TT Grandstand scoreboard - Malcolm - 27-02-2018 @ IOM Scouts
As part of the ongoing safety improvements for the organisation of the Isle of Man TT Races and Festival of Motorcycling (FoM), the Department for Enterprise (DfE) commissioned a structural survey of the TT scoreboard and timing huts on Glencrutchery Road.
The purpose of the survey was to establish the structural condition and integrity of the TT scoreboard and timing huts in order to ensure the safety of pedestrians and traffic using Glencrutchery Road, as well as the safety of those personnel who operate the scoreboard and timing huts for the TT and FoM. The structural report has identified a schedule of works that will be required in order to ensure that the scoreboard structure and timing huts can continue to be operated up to and including the 2020 TT Races and FoM events. This timescale fits in with the planned road works on Glencrutchery road, during which it is expected the existing structure and the timing huts will need to be taken down. This 3 year period allows for extensive consultation between all stakeholders in order to fully consider a replacement structure. In addition to the structural survey, on behalf of the DfE, the Department of Infrastructure (DOI) commissioned a full electrical survey of the timing huts and scoreboard lighting system. The results of this electrical survey are still being assessed, as are the options available in order to update the timing information available to teams in the pit-lane. The Department will now invite expressions of interest to deliver the required schedule of works. In the first instance, this work will be advertised using the government website at /procurement. |
