Thruxton clash with TT Superbike Saturday in 2021 - Malcolm - 28-10-2020 BSB schedule shows round in middle of TT fortnight
With continued speculation about whether next year's TT will take place, and with no end in sight to the Covid-19 pandemic, do organisers of the British Superbike Championship know something we don't?
There's often a BSB round over the first weekend of TT but the schedule for next year shows a round at Thruxton from Friday 4 to Sunday, 6 June. Saturday, 5 June is the first race day of TT 2021 with roads due to close at 10am. That's followed by a solo machines morning warm-up over one lap at 10.30am with the six-lap RST Superbike race starting at noon. A number of the TT's top riders, including absolute lap record holder Peter Hickman compete at BSB. The opening TT race day is completed by the 3wheeling.media Sidecar TT Race 1 over three laps at 3pm. RE: Thruxton clash with TT Superbike Saturday in 2021 - BrianW - 29-10-2020 I remember when the FIM awarded the TT historic status and said that there would never be a dates clash with MGP, SBK or British championship, now look where we are !! RE: Thruxton clash with TT Superbike Saturday in 2021 - Nasher - 29-10-2020 I agree, but I thought that was agreed in the mid seventies - so 45 years ago - a lot has happened since then RE: Thruxton clash with TT Superbike Saturday in 2021 - ian333 - 29-10-2020 BSB has been run at a loss this year and they might feel the best way forward is to look after number 1. As every motorsport series/venue scrambled to workout their 2021 dates, this is what they came away with. I appreciate they own most circuits but the arranging of dates is usually a coordinated effort across all levels of racing. Given the high level of uncertainty especially around the first half of 2021, issues will arise. That said, it does the BSB no favours in going head to head with the TT. Pooling from the same fan base would be a small issue but the bigger issue would be the teams/riders/infrastructure etc. The TT is essentially a BSB for the roads these days. Numerous teams do both. Tyre companies do both. Riders do both. Same sponsors. Same hospitality set ups etc etc. Maybe this is Stuart Higgs attempt at world (or at least British) domination but at a time when team and supplier budgets will be extremely tight next year, it would be a tough sell to them. The TT is good for BSB and visa versa. My personal opinion is either they assume or know the TT will not run in June but perhaps will be pushed back to the Classic/MGP dates which the BSB has ironically left open in their schedule? Time will tell I guess. RE: Thruxton clash with TT Superbike Saturday in 2021 - Owl Man - 31-10-2020 I think it is becoming more obvious that there won't be a TT in 2021. I don't think BSB are trying to undermine the TT, as with other organisations and clubs they are looking at a later start to the season and the gap that no TT would bring to the calendar. The fact that the Classic/Manx dates are still in tact also points to this. IMHO RE: Thruxton clash with TT Superbike Saturday in 2021 - chris4652009 - 01-11-2020 The 2021 TT being off is the worst kept secret ever. It’s all but official now RE: Thruxton clash with TT Superbike Saturday in 2021 - chris4652009 - 01-11-2020 I wonder if the rumours of it being shifted to September at the axing of the MGP and classic hold any truth. It's looking very doubtful but nothing has been officially announced yet, but the Manx government are going to make an announcement in the very near future before Christmas so within the next four or five weeks I reckon. This is an option that will possibly be considered but I guess time will tell once the official announcement has been made. RE: Thruxton clash with TT Superbike Saturday in 2021 - AntG - 02-11-2020 The BSB calendar at the moment is only provisional so it could change but I severely doubt there's going to be a TT next year especially with Covid-19 cases shooting up again, even if by some miracle there is a TT 2021, how many spectators will be able to afford to go over? How many teams will have the budget to do it? |
