British Superbike winner Andrew Irwin and Honda Racing part company - Malcolm - 05-11-2020 Andrew Irwin won three British Superbike races this season on the Honda Racing Fireblade Northern Ireland’s Andrew Irwin has parted company from the Honda Racing British Superbike team after a two-year association.
The Carrick man, who was joined in the team for the truncated 2020 season by his older brother Glenn, was a three-time winner this year on the new Honda Fireblade.
He won his maiden BSB race in 2019 at Thruxton and clinched a double at the opening round of the series this year at Donington Park. Irwin followed up with another win at the longer GP track at Donington in October as he finished sixth overall in the final championship standings. A statement from Honda Racing on Wednesday said: ‘Honda Racing can announce that Andrew Irwin will not be continuing with the team for 2021. Parting ways after a successful two years with Honda Racing, Andrew has decided it is time for a new challenge in his racing career. ‘During his time with the Honda team Andrew secured his first-ever British Superbike Championship victory at Thruxton in 2019. This season he enjoyed three further wins taking the top step at the opening round at Donington Park, in what was the debut race for the all-new Fireblade. ‘Andrew played a pivotal role in the development of the Fireblade with his hard work and determination contributing to the team’s success during the 2020 season. ‘Andrew will always be a part of the Honda Racing family and everyone in the team and Honda UK would like to thank him for his hard work, we wish him all the best in his future racing endeavours’.
