We've got a copy of an old Steam Packet poster on our wall & the thing that always amazes (confounds!) me, is that in 1905, the "New Turbine Steamer" route to the Isle of Man leaves Heysham at 2.30pm & arrives in Douglas "around " 5.15pm!
That's 2 hours 45, as opposed to 3 hours 45 of this new boat.
I know it could travel faster & it's to save fuel, but we're 116 years more technologically advanced now!!

or are we?  Confused

Health, safety & minimum wage nowadays!

No point in going any quicker unless you can gain another round trip in the 24 hours, to maintain a regular schedule.

Otherwise it wastes loads of fuel and strains the engines and they cannot keep to it in rough weather which makes a mess of the punctuality figures.
