TT 2023 Schedule Changes - Alfie Noakes - 25-10-2022 For me with the increased reasons why racing is delayed / postponed / flagged etc having The Senior at the very end of the week was only ever going to lead to it at best being shortened or cancelled too often, I just hope any delayed races during the week are shortened and The Senior remains on it's own for 6 laps on Saturday. TT 2023: Senior Race Day moves to Saturday - Manx Radio RE: TT 2023 Schedule Changes - sprocket - 25-10-2022 My sentiments exactly Alfie. I just don`t understand the thinking behind this apart from getting visitors to stay longer but I think with the new schedule there will be more and more people `popping over` for 2 or 3 days throughout the two weeks. As for the Senior race, that was always THE race of the week. Now it seems to be an after thought. Potentially, with delays for what ever reason we could end up with a race every day for nine days if the senior had to be run on the Sunday. Rant over, Take care all. RE: TT 2023 Schedule Changes - Spartacus - 25-10-2022 I cannot understant the change. I booked this year to return Saturday afternoon so we could see the Senior. I will try to get back Thursday or Friday now. Can anybody please tell me why the change? RE: TT 2023 Schedule Changes - Alfie Noakes - 25-10-2022 @ Spartacus .. There's 2 more races to fit in - Superstock / Supertwin now each have 2 races, not sure the thinking behind this as it comes across as the management are thinking we'll get some racing but not sure how much in between the weather and incident delays .... for me there's going to be too many shortened races due to delays various in an already very busy race period ..... oh and there's still not enough practice sessions given the inherent losses due to weather, incidents etc. RE: TT 2023 Schedule Changes - Spartacus - 25-10-2022 Thanks Alfie Any idea what time the senior will run on the Saturday. Will get time to get to the ferry if we see the senior? The ferry leaves at 1445. RE: TT 2023 Schedule Changes - captainsparkledotcom - 25-10-2022 I'm getting confused!! We booked, on 23rd May, to come back on the Sunday, for the first time ever, on account of the Senior taking place on the Saturday. We also took part in both surveys, expressing our "surprise" at this move, but obviously it didn't seem to make any difference! Has anything else changed since May? RE: TT 2023 Schedule Changes - Splashdown - 25-10-2022 I am stunned and saddened by this decision. Surely Senior day (Friday) was a Bank Holiday? I have ridden in more than one Senior race on a Saturday......after it was postponed from the Friday. They will have to be more than fortunate to get away with not having to cancel the race, over (say) a two or three year period. Certainly it can't run on Sunday. A) The riders will have gone home. B) The Marshals will have travelled home. C) The spectators will have largely disappeared. If the thinking is that the visitors will stay there for longer, what is the reasoning behind the shortened Classic/MGP? Absolute bonkers. RE: TT 2023 Schedule Changes - Alfie Noakes - 25-10-2022 I believe the Bank Senior Race Day Holiday is staying as a Bank Holiday ... the reason for the shortening The Manx I fear / think is that it still doesn't bring in enough money - it's what happens when the bean counters become more powerful than tradition and history... Isle Of Man TT Races 2023 Schedule Confirmed (acu.org.uk) RE: TT 2023 Schedule Changes - civ - 25-10-2022 (25-10-2022, 05:16 PM)Splashdown Wrote: If the thinking is that the visitors will stay there for longer Many visitors can't do the full fortnight - especially working people, putting more on the weekends lets those people travel over for shorter trips instead of not be able to travel over at all. Let's see how it works before we knock it. Seems to be very popular with the riders (something many knocking it have overlooked) RE: TT 2023 Schedule Changes - boon345 - 25-10-2022 One thing we all should be waiting for is how much its going to cost to get over next year ,thats going to have a effect on who goes .As the price of every thing is going up RE: TT 2023 Schedule Changes - Chris_Sav - 25-10-2022 Should be two passenger ferries plus the vomet-comet in 2023, should give more flexible travel arrangements. RE: TT 2023 Schedule Changes - sprocket - 26-10-2022 I've now just seen on Manx Radio that the post TT races have been cancelled because of the new TT schedule. Unbelievable!! RE: TT 2023 Schedule Changes - H2pots - 26-10-2022 I read somewhere the organisers think the island is at capacity for visitors and they're aiming for two lots of visitors. I'm not convinced though, it means the marshals (unpaid) have only two days off in a fortnight. The roads are closed much more often. Whilst the racing is the biggest part of a TT visit for me, I also like to ride the islands roads and see, do, visit and enjoy an holiday. Delays, postponements, cancellations will throw a real big spanner into the tight wiggle room plan. I suspect the organisers don't care about that though, they've got the visitors and they're cash captive on the island. I liked it how it was, I'll have to get used to how it's become. I too did the survey, it doesn't matter what i think! RE: TT 2023 Schedule Changes - Chris_Sav - 26-10-2022 Racing six days out of eight if all goes to schedule does not leave much time for riding, especially marshalls and other volunteers. Very little wriggle room. Cannot see enough volunteers on second Sunday afternoon if wet senior Saturday Wreaks of commercialism over racing and holidays IMHO. RE: TT 2023 Schedule Changes - Alfie Noakes - 26-10-2022 There's all sorts of other discussions going now ref religious and other TT Sunday events as it appears we are racing on Sunday 4th with the RST Superbike Race, ref Cap'n confusion ^^ - the confusion could be me sorry(likely at my age) thinking the 2023 schedule hadn't been officially confirmed. We also have 2 x 2 consecutive racing day periods where there are 3 separate solo classes over the 2 day periods, that's a huge amount of physical/machine/emotional prep for a rider unless a rider isn't doing 2 races on the same day ??. Maybe i've got old and my pit and racing memories are rose-tinted and while i'm happily prepared to move on with fashion being involved with the TTMA Response Car TT/MGP duties i've seen there's an ever increasing amount of little racing ducks that have to be in perfect straight line before a practice / race session proceeds, all the previous comments hit lots of nails on heads, here's hoping it works out OK, I guess we have to start somewhere, it's just that with such a huge lengthy intense event there's so much that has to be 100% every day/hour. https://www.iomttraces.com/racing/page/2023-schedule/ RE: TT 2023 Schedule Changes - Nasher - 26-10-2022 For me, a big issue about these changes is how poorly the rationale has been communicated (something I made clear when I participated in the consultation) In the modern era, poor communication invariably leads to much speculation and misinformation, in particular on social media. For example one post regarding the post TT races not going ahead next year was interpreted on Facebook as "no southern 100" So here is a link to the rationale behind the changes, it's worth a read: https://consult.gov.im/economic-development/isle-of-man-tt-races-schedule-change-tt-2023/supporting_documents/Consultation%20paper%20on%20the%20proposed%20change%20to%20the%20schedule%20for%20the%202023%20TT%20races%20v3.pdf In my opinion, instead of being a link on the consultation web page to a PDF file, it should have formed part of the consultation document, so that responders could at least understand the rationale, process and thinking behind the changes Whilst I may not agree with everything in the document, it does identify the thinking behind the changes Definitely worth a read IMHO and hopefully provoke some additional debate on this social media site.... RE: TT 2023 Schedule Changes - H2pots - 26-10-2022 That does make an interesting read Nasher. Though based on the social media panic about the changes, few read beyond the headline before making their mind up anyway. |
