Weather worries - rutolander - 17-08-2024

Not looking good for Manx hope it's better than the forecast.

RE: Weather worries - captainsparkledotcom - 17-08-2024

I was just saying that to ours!
Remnants of that hurricane due when we sail on Thursday & Friday, when the rest of the family sail, gusts of 50+mph!
Will the Manxman sail at all?
Still, it's early days, think positive!

Weather looking rubbish, like the TT weather looked rubbish, like the southern 100 weather looked rubbish..... Our summer is rubbish this year.

If it's any help, i sail Monday afternoon and it's looking like it's gonna be honking it down when i land.

I can see it all being crammed into next weekend, if the weather let's it. I can see long days in the hedgerows next weekend

Good job there is no Tuesday contingency, after all, that would make sense wouldn't it

Most accurate forecast I've found is here......

RE: Weather worries - captainsparkledotcom - 18-08-2024

I always tend to trust the Manx weather forecast.

Whatever you do, don't look at the BBC forecast! Confused

It's never been the same since they stopped using the MetOffice!
(I say that because the MetOffice forecast for the coming week is better!)

Indeed capt, there's no point packing if you look at the beeb forecast.

The BBC forecast is a generalisation though, very often inaccurate for the island, so don't get too doomed.

Fingers crossed we get the safe racing we want.

RE: Weather worries - H2pots - 18-08-2024

Had a text this morning, Monday day time boats at risk of cancellation.

Weather rough for Monday afternoon.

So, I've pulled the trigger on a move of boats.... I'm on the red eye tonight from Heysham. Looking like ferry disruption this week

RE: Weather worries - H2pots - 19-08-2024

Well, I'm on the island. It's grey and not looking too promising for today.

Main thing was to get across. Better to be this side of the Irish sea rather than dealing with potential cancellations / delayed boats.

It seems this afternoon heysham crossing is on but going an hour early at 1:15 pm, something to note for any of you on that crossing.

Weather meant to turn rough this afternoon, if you're sailing today, fingers crossed you don't get disrupted.

Well done, that man!
If you get a look behind the grandstand could you let us know what's there, please? (to the left of the webcam picture, out of shot, so to speak!)
presumably bar & stage type thing?
https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/mrwebcams/grandstand.jpg
Or anyone else that's across this week?

I organized a family get together, 'abroad'  Icon_biggrin  for Saturday, we were going to go full hospitality after last year,
I told everyone what it was like, so they're coming across for the weekend!
Now I don't know what to suggest!

RE: Weather worries - H2pots - 19-08-2024

I'm going up this afternoon cap, I'll let you know

RE: Weather worries - Chris_Sav - 19-08-2024

Looking at the forecast there's a distinct possibility of a complete wash-out I'm sorry to say.

RE: Weather worries - Spartacus - 19-08-2024

RE: Weather worries - Chris_Sav - 19-08-2024

It's a stage. I was up on Sat and there was a sound check being done.

RE: Weather worries - captainsparkledotcom - 19-08-2024

There was a bar type thing there today and big screen running on the adjacent stage

RE: Weather worries - captainsparkledotcom - 19-08-2024

Thankyou folks, so, a stage for the acoustic sets, apres races,
& presumably that's the H & B Vino bar that's over there too.

RE: Weather worries - captainsparkledotcom - 19-08-2024

Boat sailings to & from Heysham tomorrow night/Wed morning 'subject to possible disruption / cancellation'
No such warning for Mannannannan from Liverpool, thus far, anyway!
