IOMTT Fact Zone Cookies - bsa499 - 06-01-2025

It might be just me, but I have an aversion to freely ‘sharing’ my personal information by accepting cookies, unless I choose to. However the IOMTT Fact Zone (which I’ve happily referred to for years) has recently introduced a new cookie ‘vacuum cleaner’ perhaps for financial gain. There is a simple ‘Consent’ choice on the function but no simple reject choice except by choosing to ‘Manage Options’ and tediously trawling through and rejecting each of the ‘134 TCF vendor(s) and 64 ad partner(s) cookies’ The function claims the ‘IOMTT asks for your consent to use your personal data’. However, it doesn’t really ask ‘for your consent to use your personal data’ as you’re compelled, as previously noted, to trawl through it and rejecting each of the ‘134 TCF vendor(s) and 64 ad partner(s)’ etc in turn’. Is it just me or do any other forum members who regularly access the IOMTT Fact Zone share my concern?

Not sure I'm understanding your issue. I've just gone to the fact zone page (Microsoft edge on android) the only thing I get re cookies is an accept option, by ignoring it, the option changes to “by using our site you are accepting our cookie policy“ with a link to their policy

The policy seems fairly standard, so maybe I'm missing something?

I've never been too concerned re cookies, my junk mail consists mainly of adult dating and as anyone who knows me will tell you, there is no way I can be classed as an adult!

I kinda know what you mean - some sites have "essential only" cookie options and some are a tracking cookie fest.....a regular browsing history clearing/delete will get rid of all the cookie / cache / trackers etc.

Blimey, looking at other stuff on the internet I’ve noticed that quite a few sites are now using the same highly intrusive cookie ‘vacuum cleaner’ as the IOMTT Fact Zone!

I suspect you’re correct Nasher, the cookie note you quote isn’t what I refer to. I refer to the additional cookie sub-window that appears after selecting something on the Fact Zone site. To further clarify, operating the overall ‘Consent’ tab on the sub-window allows both the ‘Data’ and Vendor’ collectors full access to your personal internet I.D. and if you’re happy with that it’s fine. But if you’re not happy and select the ‘Manage Options’ tab then beneath many of the ‘Data’ collector’s ‘Consent’ tabs is a ‘Legitimate Interest’ tab which defaults to ‘On’ so must be selected to ‘Off’ if not required. It should be noted that something in the order of 70+ ‘Legitimate Interest Vendor’ data collectors are listed within the ‘Data’ group.

In addition to the ‘Data’ group there is an even larger ‘Vendors’ group (130+} and, as above, beneath many of the specific ‘Vendor’ collectors’ ‘Consent’ tabs are ‘Legitimate Interest’ tabs which also default to ‘On’ so again must be selected to ‘Off’ if not required. For me, the real rub with both the ‘Data’ group and ‘Vendor’ group access to your personal data I.D. is that their access useage lasts from a few days to many years.

I’ve never previously thought of myself as a nerd but, now I’ve read what I’ve posted, perhaps I am. But my aversion to freely ‘sharing’ my personal information by accepting cookies, unless I choose to still remains. For me the new IOMTT Fact Zone’s insatiable data ‘vacuum cleaner’ has spoiled what was an easily accessible and important data source of the information we all share an interest in.
