What's Happening? - Don Simons - 06-02-2006

Could someone on the Island let us foreigners know what is going on?

Why did David Cretney leave?
Is David Cretney going to be recognised for all he has done for the TT?
Who is going to be the new Minister for Fun?
How long will the MMCC continue to organise the TT?
Who is paying Neil Hanson?
What special events are being planned for 2007?
Is there a preliminary list of starters for this year's TT?
What is happening about a TT museum?
What is the new class that is being talked about?

Even a few rumours would settle us down a bit. We are desperate for some juicy morsels of scuttlebutt.
It is OK for you, you only have to go down to the local pub, but we are thousands of miles away!!

when did David Cretney leave?

Please see separate thread "David Cretney to stand down as Tourism Minister" in this Forum

Thanks Pierre, but what is really going on?
As far as I am aware there have been differences of opinion aired in the Tynwald. Can anyone who lives there fill us in?
David has been a rock of support and it would be an injustice if he were allowed to just slip away without a word of thanks.
The MMCC were thought to be the saviours of the TT, one wonders why they are now so silent on all the big issues.

Ask George Bush he would have a better idea.

I think David Cretney was right to resign, after all he did for the TT, then he got treated like something you pick up on your shoe on a bad day by the ACU and MMCC and made to look like a right prat by his exclusion from a major and very serious meeting for this new Licence, or should I say additional insurance premium, when is everyone going to be told the truth?

He definately deserves some accolade in appreciation of his efforts and hard work.

David Cretney had been Minister of Tourism and Leisure for far longer than one minister usually stays in one position. And he rightly has to look after his own ambitions as well. This is why he is moving on.

The infrastructure, that he has been the driving force in creating, will be his legacy, and the TT once more has a future in the hands of Paul, Milky and all the other un-named people, behind the scenes, who are committed to the TT and MGP.
