Retirement beckons - MV - 18-09-2006 Oh, how much of my life I have wasted on bikes!! I have just announced at work that I am taking early retirement (just 7 months early) and packing it in at the end of January. Where has it all gone! Now, I plan to waste my retirement, too! Must get over to some Irish racing next spring. I may also visit some people who I have never even met yet! I have already met more interesting people through this website than through "normal" day to day life! MV - charlie hulse - 18-09-2006 I can appreciate the sentiments Mike, but I have one observation.... I have come to realise.....It's the life I have wasted AWAY from bikes I regret   ....'cos I've always come back. 8) ......................BTW Happy retirement   - Chris Maybury - 14-10-2006 I have to agree with Charlie on that point. How can time SPENT on bikes be considered as wasted? I was privilaged to meet up with Charlie at the Gold Cup Races, last month and we both found that we had a lot in common. (And not just that his wife is named Chris). MV, we also have a lot in common as, when I get home I live in Fleet probably about 30 odd miles from you. I first went to Thruxton in the late fifties (on a 1938 Levis 500). When you traveled from Staines, you probably passed through the little village where I was born, Hartley Wintney. I am also expecting retirement next year but not until I get back from the TT. Hope to see you all there. I may try to look you up sometime, later in the year, as I have a friend working in Middle Wallop near you I have promised to visit. - Anonymous - 15-10-2006 People asked for 40+ years were am going for my holidays and i replied 'the isle of man' but these days being retired i still visit the island for the best run meeting on the road race calendar the S100 and my advice for fans who only visit the tt try irish road racing also its adictive - MV - 16-10-2006 Chris, thank you for your interesting post! I plan to write to you separately, probably via PM here. Pykey, one of my plans for retirement is to get to some Irish road races. I have wanted to go since I first heard about Ray McCullogh and then saw the Road Racers film of the 1970s! Thats part of the rationale for buying the little camper van (that I collect on Friday!) I will he hoping that you guys who have been will help point me in the right direction with hints and tips. Charlie, Pykey and Chris, did you really think that I was serious about wasting time with bikes?? I was taking a leaf out of the George Best quoute... ...... "the rest of it I wasted!" MV - charlie hulse - 16-10-2006 I did put lots of smiley things in Mike...not that serious 8) - Anonymous - 16-10-2006 there is an article on ray mculloch in the latest edition of classic racer the nov dec edition |
