Dept of Tourism & Leisure Announce Latest TT Development - Malcolm - 27-10-2006

- larryd - 27-10-2006

Malcolm - I presume that there are road races in there somewhere :?:

:?

Sport my ar*e - Show Business, Commercialism and Profit rule :!: :!:

Enough to make one a socialist, ignoring the fact that I am one already

Larry you can do as you usually do these days and stay down Billown and by the way i agree with you.

- larryd - 28-10-2006

Bloody right Pykey - that's exactly where I'll be :!: :!:

In TT fortnight, there's nothing worthwhile in the Island north of Ballasalla.

ps - nothing, that is, except the Gorse Lea Marshals club . . . . . . .

- Beatster - 30-10-2006

Larryd,

Great comments Lol

I presume you only watch the BBC NI channel as not to be poisoned with the commercial brainwashing of ITV and such channels.

Change is such a scary thought. What was Darwins theory? That man knew nothing I guess

- PeterCourtney - 30-10-2006

"The logo also includes a speedy swoosh symbol"
Well that's all right then.

- MV - 31-10-2006

I am sorry to say this, but am I alone in thinking that the
design is pants and totally bland and uninspiring.
You can laugh about the TT bug, but it is remembered.
Its funny how things are going in my life right now.
1. My desire to continue with a season ticket really dwindled
with the move from Highbury. The "match experience" is now
bland, expensive and passing the true fan by.

2. My interest in the TT is dwindling now with the move to
Superbikes. The "TT experinece is now bland, expensive and
passing the true fan by.

Hmm, I guess it must be me!!

I will be there in May, but will seriously consider the Manx and some
Irish racing in 2008

You've hit on some really good points there MV.

Why have Arsenal moved to a larger stadium, more money? Allow more fans in to enjoy the football? More facilities for all people, disabled etc?

There are always 2 ways to look at things.

Same at the IOM, Do you desire close racing, big teams and the best roadracers in the worlds? Or, the sound of the 2 strokes which in themselves create a great atmosphere but seem to be seeing dwindling numbers in races over here and Ireland (10 or less 250 machines at the S100).

I grew up watching Superbike, Supersport, 250cc and 125cc racing at Oulton Park and I've been on the Island 5 years never missing a TT or MGP, I also try to attend as many Irish Races a year.

Please expand your true fan statement, I'd like to know what is required to join this club Big Grin

Manx GP - keep it quiet - Bill Snelling - 31-10-2006

Flippin 'eck Mike, don't give the Island's best-kept secret away. The Manx offers Classics, strokers, two x two-day trials, one for modern, one for classics, even the Vintage Club get (nearly) a lap on closed roads. (Yes, I know we get colder weather)
And for us stopovers, we don't even have to prop up the Steam Packet's bank balance; I bought my house on the fares saved since '75!
MV, you will love it

(10 or less 250 machines at the S100).

There were 21 250 entries in the S100 programme. In race 2 there were 12 finishers, 4DNF's and 1 DNS. In race 8 there were 8 finishers, 4DNF's and 5 DNS's. Now, I realise its a long time ago since I went to school and weve gone decimalised, metricated, put a man on the moon and gone into the 21st Century, but I dont think anythings changed the fact that those figures add up to more than "10 or less".

- Don Simons - 01-11-2006

There is no live TV coverage, there is not even a miserable web cam for overseas fans. How is expected that some company will take up the naming rights to the whole event if it is not on TV? Come on chaps!
These beat ups are becoming as repetitive and uninspiring as the logo. Every two bit graphic artist has used that swoosh for the last 10 years. Perhaps it represents excess gas escaping from the excitement machine somewhere on the Island.
My preference would be to see a proper classic race as they have at the Manx rather than parade laps, static displays and black tie dinners.
The TT was created for motorcycle racing for God's sake not "entertainment".
But I hope they all have a good meal and the racing goes off well. If there is any racing - I didn't see much mention of it.

- Beatster - 01-11-2006

Don,

What would happen if after signing up for live television the bad weather sets in and the racing is cancelled, what will the viewers watch? Sounds exciting but not practical, unless you make the riders race in those conditions which defy's all common sense and safety just for your entertainment?

"The TT was created for motorcycle racing for God's sake not "entertainment"."

Is motorcycle racing not entertaining? If you didn't have all this entertainment that brings in the revenue, you can forget about classic racing at the manx because without the TT the manx would disappear as this is ran from money that is earned from the TT.

Paul Phillips Wrote:Don
Finally Don, my invite to you to come and see us during TT 2007 to show me where we are going wrong and how the TT should be ran remains. I am sure you can put us right pretty quickly! Best wishes Paul
So the Manx government is willing to pay "non-start" money for Don's fare from Oz? Very generous - Don I should bite his hand off!!

- Paul Phillips - 02-11-2006

I wouldn't have thought so Peter. With Don being the die hard TT fan he appears to be, I would have expected him to have been booked up for the Centenary years ago! As I have have told him before, when he arrives on our fine Island next, he is more than welcome to come and put the job right for us.

Paul

- Don Simons - 02-11-2006

I missed that one Peter as I am currently in Tokyo with little likelyhood of taking up Paul's kind offer.
Thank you again Paul for keeping the door open for our disscussion on my 'minority' views which are really quite simple and unburdened with obligatory mentions of safety, commercialism and how much fun everyone is going to have etc.
Sad when only 10% of the public want to see a Manx Norton at full throttle on Sulby straight. But very good news that the live coverage may be enhanced.
