Bill Ivy Question. - Sid from Brigg - 24-11-2006 My local paper,Scunthorpe Telegraph publishes a Motorcycling Bygones extra every 3 months or so,in this months edition some work by a local artist feature, excellent pictures he paints as well. One picture depicts Bill Ivy which looks like it's at the Creg, however the rider is leant to his left as if he is going up the slip road.I showed my friends in my local the picture and they spotted that he seems to be going the wrong way. However i have since found out that Bill Ivy once stopped at The Creg to ask who was winning !!! Is this true ? and can anyone tell me which race and year ? Thanks. - Sid from Brigg - 24-11-2006 Ah ! The power of Google............. Bill Ivy & Phil Read 26p - Who cannot forget the year-long duels between Yamaha works teammates and rivals pocket-rocket' Bill Ivy and 'rebellious' Phil Read, Read was to win Yamaha's first TT victory, the 1965 125cc race. but the highlight of this period was undoubtedly Bill Ivy's 100mph lap on the 1968 125, awesome' was the consensus of opinion at that time, Team orders that day dictated the win should go to Read, so Ivy stopped at the Creg on the last lap and allowed Read to take the win. 26p relates to the fact that I found the info on Stanley Gibbons Stamps website !!!! - Sam Pato - 27-11-2006 I once spent hours puzzzling over a photo from Scarbrough until I realised the plate was back to front when it had been printed. i.e. a left turn looked like a right turn. Might be worth another look. Sam - Sid from Brigg - 27-11-2006 I t did occur to us but Kates Cottage on the inside of the track didn't get a vote.Must get a copy of this pic and post it for you to look at. |
