Sad news from Scotland - thewitch - 07-01-2007

Ronnie Niven, one of the great characters of Scottish racing for the last 40 years, has died. I believe he died peacefully in his bed.
When I have funeral details I will let you know.
My thoughts are with his family and friends, (especially Denis Gallagher, who has been his friend and fellow competitor for so many years.)
I am sure there are Ala D'Oros in heaven, Ronnie.

Very sorry to hear that Helen.Unfortunately,as we get older, more of us seem to pass under the chequered flag, at more regular intervals.Enjoy your life whilst you can.Condolences to all family and friends, but rest assured,he will be in the company of some good friends

I've just read this....I'm devastated...I have stayed with Ronnie and his partner Jackie many times over the years.

To say it is a shock doesn't come close....There are no words.

My heartfelt condolences to Jackie, the "kids", and all Ronnie's friends and relatives.

"There'll be some braw tales tel't when he meets wi' Jimmy Morton again"

RIP Ronnie

Back home from the funeral.....WHAT A TURNOUT.

The crem' chapel was absolutely packed, every seat, lined up along the walls, stood down the centre aisle, three and four deep at the back and more in the entrance hall unable to get in. I heard estimates of 300 plus!!!

A fantastic tribute to a man who was almost singularly responsible for the setting up of the Scottish Classic Racing Club.

I won't embarrass anyone by naming names (except Mose... a great reading) but it was a whose who of Scottish Racing over the last forty years.

RIP Ronnie mate!
