OLDEST EX MGP RIDER - Bill Snelling - 15-03-2008 We have found another near-centenarian who competed from the early 30s, eight MGP rides including a win, second and third. More details to follow. Who? Why did he stop riding? RE: OLDEST EX MGP RIDER - scruffy - 16-03-2008 Would it be Jock Muir by any chance Bill? RE: OLDEST EX MGP RIDER - Bill Snelling - 16-03-2008 No, but he may still be with us. RE: OLDEST EX MGP RIDER - Bill Snelling - 17-04-2008 The answer can be found on the MGP website http://www.manxgrandprix.org/News/news6.html RE: OLDEST EX MGP RIDER - thewitch - 17-04-2008 The Committee of the Manx Motorcycle Club would like to extend their warmest congratulations to 1935 Senior Manx Grand Prix winner, Kelly Swanston. After finishing second in both the 1933 and '34 races Kelly went on to take victory in the 1935 Senior Race. Suffering mechanical difficulties with the spark plug on his Norton, he recovered from a first lap position of sixth to set a new race record of 76.02mph overhauling none other than Freddie Frith on his last lap! As much as he wanted to continue his riding career following his victory, his father insisted that he must give up his motorcycling to enable him to concentrate on his chosen career within the medical profession. Congratulations Kelly on a becoming a centenarian! Fantastic. Best wishes from everyone at TTwebsite.
