Jurby problems - FC - 20-05-2008

The House of Keys had a debate today regarding the Department of Tourism withdrawing support for motor sports events at Jurby.
I have a question (not an attack on Paul P), the DOTL have created a department and management team to specialize in motor sports events at a great cost to the tax payer, or is this department only interested in one event the TT. If thats the case then its a scam, how can we expect to see home grown talent coming through the ranks in motor sport if they cant get any help at the grass roots.

RE: Jurby problems - gary the nurse - 20-05-2008

if we lose jurby we lose our training ground for likes of gav H etc so we lose our racers of the future, if it werent for jurby then we wouldnt have had so many manx riders racing the TT or MGP and across the waters

is this "bringing the races onto a more commercial footing" smilie again

RE: Jurby problems - DickH - 22-05-2008

Jurby used to be a split responsibility between DoT who own the site and DoTL who operated the site - and both were situated remotely at Douglas. DoTL then declined to continue operating the site.
DoT advertised for parties interested and this resulted in the majority of the former Jurby Users Group forming a Company called Jurby Sports & Leisure Ltd (JSL) to bid (successfully) for a 3 year initial contract to operate events at Jurby on a mini commercial basis.

JSL is mainly Andreas Racing for bikes, IoMKRA for Karts, Duke Karting, Duke Trackdays for Trackdays and other events plus Model & Kites.

We have only just started but we are working together to everyone's benefit and plans are afoot for a new pukka Kart circuit and track improvements.

There is an early web site at http://www.jurby.org/ and contact details are there. Phil Hawes is an experienced Track Manager and we are all optimistic that we can see Jurby run safely and with benefits to all users.

Hopefully, this is all good news.
