ITV4 100 greatest moments - Splashdown - 05-06-2008 I'm surprised that no one else has started a thread on this subject. I watched tonight's programme with great interest, and although it didn't show the top 10, I think it was the top 7 for some reason, who would want to argue with their choice? For me. I thought the 1935 Senior, (Woods v Guthrie) should have been up there. Also Joey's 125 win in 1993 when he equalled SMBH's record number of wins. Geoff Duke's 99.97 from 1955. SMBH's 1961 hatrick. Malcom Uphill's 100mph lap on a Production bike in 1970. There must have been loads. Maybe with me not seeing any of the other programmes, I may have missed something, but this was their top 7. Mind you, I thought they were still a pretty good choice. Perhaps a bit more action, and a few less interviews would have suited me. But what about the crowds at the Bungalow, and the Creg when (my all time hero) Bob Mac won in 1957? Please don't try to tell me that there are more spectators around the course today, than there were then. Even allowing for latest stringent restrictions, just where are the bulk of spectators now? Cheers Russ Henley RE: ITV4 100 greatest moments - Sam Pato - 06-06-2008 I got the 100 greatest TT moments DVD for Xmas. I watched it convinced that Loughers 250 win in 1991 (+ lvery ong standing lap record) must be top 10 material - and it didn't even make it into the 100. No justice Sam RE: ITV4 100 greatest moments - Tom Loughridge - 06-06-2008 Nick 1957 was my first TT I went with three other apprentices who where at Bournille Tech College, two of them worked at BSA and one at Joseph Lucas. Was on a rigid 500 Velocete complete with the war surplus Don R coat lace up hobnailed boots and RAF goggles. Your right about the crowds, the TT spectator numbers for many years now have only been a shadow of the halcyon years, I'm sure Ian Huntley will agree with us that the TT is now small beer in respect of spectators during its golden years. Anyone know the visitor figures over the years. I bet those crowds weren't being asked to pay to go on a public right of way or to use a toilet! RE: ITV4 100 greatest moments - larryd - 06-06-2008 I still have the tiny ticket for admission to the enclosure at the Creg on Senior Day 1963 - it was the field on the left, with a view straight down to Gob-ny-Geay. Price one shilling - 5 pence. And you could go for a pee, free, in the Keppel Hotel, as it then was!! Safe journey home to all visitors. Only 10 weeks before the Manx... RE: ITV4 100 greatest moments - muz66 - 07-06-2008 I'm pretty sure there are more bikes than ever before visiting the TT but I remember going in the late 70's and there was standing room only on the Steam Racket boats but nowhere near as many bikes. The vast majority were foot passengers. Definately more around the course though. RE: ITV4 100 greatest moments - FC - 08-06-2008 not all the hotels were fully booked up, Campsites not a busy and Martin at Bushies pulling his hair out |
