speed trap - ancient - 23-08-2008 can any one tell me where the manx speed trap is sited ? sulby? it would be nice to compare with previous times,,, RE: speed trap - Bill Snelling - 23-08-2008 ancient Wrote:can any one tell me where the manx speed trap is sited ? sulby? it would be nice to compare with previous times,,,It is somewhere on the Sulby Straight. I know that 'cos when we went out on transponder test before the TT, the CoC reckoned he could have nicked us all. Everyone with a transponder went through above 30 - slowest was 30.4 (probably me!) and fastest clocked was 64 mph. RE: speed trap - ancient - 23-08-2008 NOT SURE IF I HAVE EXPLAINED WHAT IM LOOKING FOR.ITS WHERE EVER THE TIMES ARE TAKEN FOR THE SPEEDS GIVEN ON THE MANX GRAND PRIX SITE,,AS I HAVE SOME FOR 1960 ON SULBY,,SLOWER ENTRY THROUGH QUARRY BENDS BUT I THINK HAILWOOD WAS AROUND 140 ON A NORTON BY BILL LACEY,WILL PUT THEM ON IF I CAN FIND IT,, RE: speed trap - Tomcat - 25-08-2008 The speed trap in years past used to be at the Highlander. Not sure where it is now. I know they have a display when you go past the pits but that is by no means the fastest point. RE: speed trap - Manxrider - 03-09-2008 The speed trap last year was on the Sulby straight, just before the last right kink. There are two lines in the road surface near the old distillery, more or less by the green bus shelter. However, I was told that this year they had been moved a short distance (by that I mean only a matter of 15 yards) closer towards Quarry Bends. If you look you can see a second set of wires in the road surface and there are some electrical control boxes in a gated yard a short distance from the afore mentioned bus shelter. The classics' were generally between 120 and 145 for a 500 and 110 and 130 for the 350's. The modern 750's were doing 170 ish. If that helps at all? RE: speed trap - David Taylor - 03-09-2008 I seem to recall being told last year that the ground loop pickup that the transponders trigger is near the Sulby electricity sub-station. If this is correct, the bikes are still gathering speed as they cross it as the brake marker is not until after you come around the right hand kink before the sign for Sulby Bridge. David RE: speed trap - ancient - 03-09-2008 thank you all ,the friday22nd times i have give steve quickest at 144 and then the next fastest (another paton at134,nortons at 133,,when i can find them i will put the 1960 times on which i think were before the village.believe hailwood was 138,on the norton,,which makes for an interesting comparison, RE: speed trap - andy kirk - 10-09-2008 ah ha i found out exactly where the speed trap is this year AND its in paul philips dads house gararge across the road from the phone box just before the right hand kink next door to juan knights house !!! thats the answer i got form the race office anyway.
