Wednesday Race Preview - Malcolm - 27-08-2008 Urgent: Roads remain open. Further announcement at 12 noon. Earliest possibleTT course road closure1.15pm subject to announcement. It’s the second day of Manx Grand Prix racing on the Snaefell Mountain Course, with a further two four-lap events. Roads close at 9.30am and first at 10.15am will be the combined Junior and Lightweight Classic, to be followed by the main Junior race at 1.15pm. There is a field of nearly 100 for the Junior and Lightweight Classic, which is for machines of 350cc and 250cc respectively. Sixty riders will contest the Junior, including TT star and Senior Classic winner Ryan Farquhar on a twin-cylinder Honda. The Ulsterman was fastest in practice on Friday evening at 101.641mph In the Lightweight class, twin-cylinder Suzuki's usually dominate, with the fastest in practice Jonathan Cutts circulating on Friday evening at 93.449mph. In the afternoon’s Junior race, which is for machines up to 600cc, a field of 104 will compete. Fastest in practice was another Irishman, Ryan McCay who took his P.R.F. Racing Suzuki round in 19 minutes 10.94 seconds a speed of 118.015 on Thursday. His ‘team mate’ Scott Wilson from Burton on Trent was second quickest, also set on Thursday at 116.561mph. Third fastest, is Newcomers ‘C’ race winner Manxman, Daniel Kneen. Riding his Yamaha R6 he recorded a speed of 116.011mph on what was to be the final practice session on Friday. Following the Junior race, there will be an untimed one-lap practice session for Ultra Lightweight, Lightweight and Senior race competitors, and at the conclusion of that, the visiting VMCC will parade on closed roads from Ramsey to the Grandstand- weather permitting.. |
