They're Off - Anonymous - 27-08-2003 Steve Colley starts the race with Jason Griffiths leading off with Chris McGahan in beautiful sunshine. Glen Helen - Lap 1 - Anonymous - 27-08-2003 First through is McGahan just in front of Griffiths, then Swallow and Price leading Goodall, now comes John Loder then Mark Linton. Dennis Gallagher being caught by Hughes. Alan Oversby goes through, Millichip then Rhodes. Ramsey - Lap 1 - Anonymous - 27-08-2003 Chris McGahan goes through at the hairpin 5 seconds behind Jason Griffiths, then comes Bill Swallow on his own, next is Bob Price with a nice tight line, then Goodall and Tim Johnstone, Loder on the Greeves Oulton, followed by Doug Snow and Mark Linton on an Aermacchi (what else). Richardson Wood Hamilton End of Lap 1 - Anonymous - 27-08-2003 Jason Griffiths and Chris McGahan went over the timing strip at the bungalow neck & neck, with McGahan some 4 seconds behind at the hairpin. Griffiths comes through on his own with McGahan some 11 seconds behind, then Bill Swallow followed by Bob Price, a big gap then to John Goodall and Doug Snow with Tim Johnstone on their tail, then John Loder and Mark Linton Placings on corrected timing Griffiths McGahan Swallow Price Goodall Snow Loder Johnstone Glen Helen - Lap 2 - Anonymous - 27-08-2003 Jason Griffiths goes through some 12 seconds up on Chris McGahan, followed by Bill Swallow then a big gap to Bob Price followed by John Goodall and Doug Snow and Tim Johnstone, then Mark Linton in front of John Loder, then Alan Oversby and Dave Hughes, then Dennis Gallagher & Bob Millichip Placings on corrected timing Griffiths McGahan Swallow Price Snow Linton Goodall Oversby Loder Johnstone Hughes Millichip Roy Richardson is flying in the Lightweight with Barry Wood sitting in second place at the end of lap 1. Ramsey - Lap 2 - Anonymous - 27-08-2003 Jason Griffiths goes through 16 seconds in front of Chris McGahan, then a gap to Bill Swallow of some 22 seconds. Next comes through Bob Price some 80 seconds back, followed closely by Doug Snow and John Goodall and Tim Johnstone, John Loder. Dave Hughes comes through followed by Bob Millichip and Dennis Gallagher (now 65 years old and still as good as ever). Over the line goes Griffiths, McGahan comes through some 16 seconds behind him. Bill Swallow comes through (averaging 100mph for the 2 laps) then a big gap to Price, followed by Goodall and Linton Richardson goes through at the hairpin stretching his lead again. Norman Kneen retires at Parliament Square. Oversby retires yet again. Hugh Hughes also retires Placings on Timing Griffiths McGahan Swallow Price Snow Goodall Glen Helen - Lap 3 - Anonymous - 27-08-2003 Sorry Mark Linton is in 4th place on corrected timing at the end of lap 2. Griffiths comes through with McGahan reducing the lead to some 13 seconds, then Bill Swallow goes through. That is the 123 on timing , then followed by Linton, Snow, Price, Goodall, Loder Dennis Gallagher goes through safely at Glen Helen. Roy Richardson stops for fuel at the end of lap 2, has a good stop and gets out, just as Barry Wood comes in for his pit stop. Richardson leads by some 75 seconds at the end of the lap. Now 93 seconds after the pit stops. Decca Kelly comes in for his pit stop. Richardson Wood Hamilton McGahan Retires - Anonymous - 27-08-2003 Reported that Chris McGahan retires at Quarry Bends with a dead engine. Ramsey - Lap 3 - Anonymous - 27-08-2003 Griffiths goes through safely, with a long, long gap (46 seconds) to Bill Swallow now in 2nd place, after McGahan's retirement at Quarry Bends. There is now an even longer time gap to the next man through Doug Snow with Bob Price and Mark Linton all together. Next one through is John Loder Placings on timing Griffiths Swallow Linton Snow Price Goodall Roy Richardson leads the Lightweight now by 98 seconds over Barry Wood, then Ewan Hamilton and Kevin Stroud and Steve Smith and Decca Kelly. End of Lap 3 - Anonymous - 27-08-2003 Griffiths still out in front breaking the lap record in the 3rd lap, followed by some 48 seconds, by Swallow, then Linton, Snow, Price, Goodall all together again. Retirees 24, 49, 61, 72, 91, 94, 96, 104, 119 Roy Richardson still leading Barry Wood by some 98 seconds in the Lightweight. Last Lap - Glen Helen - Anonymous - 27-08-2003 Griffiths goes through safely with a long gap (50 seconds) to Swallow, a long, long wait then to Linton, Price & Snow together, then Goodall, Johnstone and then comes Loder. Wood Hamilton Stroud Smith Kelly Ramsey - Last Lap - Anonymous - 27-08-2003 Griffiths is flying and looks as if he may be on for the race record also. He runs through at the hairpin with the bike sounding sweet. He is some 54 seconds ahead of Bill Swallow. Next through with a very long time gap of some 2 minutes is Linton, Price & Snow all together, yet again. John Goodall comes through about 5 seconds behind Snow. Placings on Timing. Griffiths Swallow Linton Snow Price Goodall In the Lightweight, Roy Richardson is some 2 minutes and 5 seconds in front of Barry Wood, then comes Kevin Stroud The Finsih Line - Anonymous - 27-08-2003 The light is on at the Cronk for Griffiths, now can he maintain his speed to take the record ? He approaches the finish line and NO - he misses it by some 12 seconds, but of course takes first place in the race. The Finish Line / 2 - Anonymous - 27-08-2003 Griffiths takes his 2nd Junior Classic win, breaking the lap record in the process. Bill Swallow in 2nd (49 secs behind). Price and Snow come over the line, but Linton is nowhere to be seen. (Reported to be touring at the Cronk - out of fuel ?). John Goodall comes home safely. 3rd looks as if it has gone to Doug Snow. Preliminary Results to follow. Lightweight Finish - Anonymous - 27-08-2003 Roy Richardson takes the win with Barry Wood in 2nd place and Ewan Hamilton in 3rd. Barry Wood "2nd will do me, Roy demoralized us all. We will be back again next year for another go". Ewan Hamilton " I am pleased to come home in one piece as I haven't had a placing since 1999".
