Trophy enquiry - Ant132 - 15-06-2009 Hello, I have come into possesion of a 1933 Manx GP trophy. Engraved; J.M Muir 1933 67-73MPH 13TH The trophy is about 10 inches high. If anyone has any connections to the family or would be interested in the trophy let me know, as it might hold some sentimental value? RE: Trophy enquiry - Splashdown - 16-06-2009 That was Jock Muir, who I think competed in many forms of motorcycle sport before the war, particularly sand racing from memory. He rode the MGP from 1930-33, eight races, winning the '31 Senior, and a 2nd, a 3rd a 5th, and the 13th mentioned above. Finishing in 5 out 8 races was a pretty fair achievement in those days. He didn't compete in the TT, but was certainly a prominent Scottish competitor, and I'm sure someone will have some knowledge of him. Over to Larry and Bill! RE: Trophy enquiry - larryd - 17-06-2009 Known as "Spug" Muir, Nick, and a member of the C.U.A.C (Cambridge University Automobile Club). Without a bit of research, that's as far as I can go, although he was a sporting colleague of Jock Forbes and John "Crasher" White, who was to ride factory Nortons and NSUs later in the 30s. RE: Trophy enquiry - Bill Snelling - 17-06-2009 I suggested that Ant 123 to put this on, I am unaware if any immediate family are still connected to motorcycling. |
