Bring Back The Colin & Eric Debating Society - John Foster - 13-07-2009

Seeing Eric's recent post about the excellent work that he does for charities, I was reminded of the entertaining exchanges between Eric and Colin seen on forums in the past.

Come on Colin, I know that you could contact Eric and relaunch it to liven things up on here.

Yes Eric in his heyday was a formidable intellect and a master of scatology he is sorely missed. Colin whilst a doyen of circumlocution, would be hard put to match the incomprehensible and baffling prose of the old master. Bring them on.

Hi John,

Funnily enough, that is 1 thing that Malcolm & myself had a chat about yesterday,

Its one of those things that went down well at the time,
But like a lot of things it can get a bit samey,

If Eric & Colin feel like bringing it back,
And Malcolm thinks its worth a try,
Iam sure we can sort it out,

How many times have the Rolling Stones made a comeback,,
Which are going to be the Younger though Icon_biggrin
Only joking Eric & Colin,, maybe,,Icon_biggrin

I can just picture Manx Radio getting hold of it,

The Zimmer Tour,,
No i Bought the last Round in the Saddle Tour,

The names for it could go On & On & On,
Iam sure there are a lot of you out there, that can come up with better ones,
Lets hear them,
As long as they are clean,,

The more ideas we get for the site the better,
We are keeping it the same but just refreshing things,

Thanks John for yours,

Pipeman

RE: Bring Back The Colin & Eric Debating Society - eric - 13-07-2009

I think that was all in the past and best left there fun at the time I am amazed anyone remembers it
I would rather leave it I am not as intrested in talking about bike racing now I still dont miss any TT or MGP but my main intrest now is golf
I have played in a few amputee golf comps but prefer to play with able bodied as i dont regard my self as disabled just because i lost a leg just get on with the life you are given
Somehow dont ask why a few of us decided to do some fundrasing with a small golf comp but it just grew and grew and we ended up with the
GEOFF CANNELL MEMORIAL COMP loads of work and loads of sleepness nights just before the event thinking what could go wrong
well it went right and was enjoyed by 100 people who played and raised
£3580 for the Joey Dunlop Foundation and £3580 for the Rob Vine fund
so i guess we will have to do it again next year but we need to attract a big sponsor anyone any contacts ?
After the sidecar crash this year we again thought we could make a few hundred for the fund so we set of again organising and the event on Sunday went well and we made £1656.00 for the boys thanks to sponsors and players thats over £8000 in a couple of months
So would i go back to debating on here i dont think so

Seriously impressive, glad i stopped myself from responding to this topic earlier.

This may seem like a strange question Eric but did you or have you suffered from phantom pains, i am asking as i have a friend who is dealing with this at the moment ?

I have had in past and sometimes now but in a non painfull way
i take a tablet 3 a day of Amitrityline 25mg i am told this in some way dispersses the pain
I can sit here and wiggle my non existing toes i have even tried to put a sock on my non existing foot
on a real bad day after to much walking it gets bad but it is real pain in what is left of muscle below my knee
I belive there is a reseach clinic you can be refered to if it is realy bad they sponsored a golf comp a few years ago for ammps but just of top of my head cant think of the name
I will look it up and let you know

RE: Bring Back The Colin & Eric Debating Society - Stella - 13-07-2009

Thanks its a friend who recently had his leg amputated and i`m trying all ways to help him out with phantom pains. They are actually trying a mirror therapy at moment which does help a bit but i guess its early days only being a matter off weeks so far, well possibly a month now.

Hi Eric,

Thank you for getting back to us so soon,
And for such a honest replie,

Hats off to you, for all you have been through,
And for being the driving force behind 2 big fund raisers,
One of which was done at very short notice, i presume ?

As for next years TT Golfing event,
Hope you do as well, & can attract the sponsers that such a good fund raising event, as this rightly deserves,

Just save me a Bacon butty Icon_biggrin

Brilliant work, as ever, Eric!

Now, is Colin going to match that sum?

RE: Bring Back The Colin & Eric Debating Society - Harvey T - 10-06-2011

Eric playing golf and raising money. No surprise but he did raise the temperature around here at times. Now Eric, I’m sure you remember me, I play golf to category one standard. If you fancy a visit to East Lothian, maybe when the open’s at Muirfield 2013, I’ll give you the hammering you deserve. No strokes. LOL

RE: Bring Back The Colin & Eric Debating Society - Splashdown - 15-06-2011

Harvey, I've played Archerfield (Fidra), Gullane (2&3), North Berwick, Lufness, Longniddry, Kilspindie, North Berwick, The Glen, and Dunbar, but I've never played Muirfield! Can you organise it?
