Petition to reinstate the reciprocal healthcare arrangement - Tomcat - 24-11-2009

As you may have heard the reciprocal agreement between the UK and IoM is to end (or may have ended...). What this means to YOU is that you now need medical insurance to visit the Island (and vice versa for Manx residents visiting the mainland) or else if you have an accident or fall ill YOU will PERSONALLY be responsible for the FULL COSTS of your hospital treatment. Obviously for a road accident this could involve weeks of in-patient treatment and tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of bills. The European EHIC card also does not apply as the IoM is not part of the EU.

I shouldn't need to have to tell you what effect this could have on the TT and other events, not only the racers who will be faced with the extra costs of health insurance. Many visitors probably won't bother and some will pay dearly. The stories of astronomical bills and cost of insurance will put off people from coming, racers, marshals, helpers and spectators.

Make your voice heard and PASS IT ON.
