The Department of Economic Development has released a preview of events for the 2017 TT Festival, which includes indie-rock band Razorlight, Island-wide entertainment and local favourites.

RazorlightThe Villa Gaiety will have a packed schedule of entertainment throughout the festival, including headliners Razorlight, who will be playing at the Villa Marina on Friday 9 June. The band has sold over 4 million albums which include well-known singles such as ‘Somewhere Else’, ‘In the Morning’ and ‘America’.

The Department of Economic Development is continuing its support of a host of events including Peel and Port Erin TT days, two days of sprint action in Ramsey, a photography exhibition in Castletown and off-road action at the Douglas and Peel beach races. Plus watch out for the Purple Helmets at the Grandstand and Peel Motorcycle Show, organised by local bike club, the Moddey Dhoo.

The TT Monster Stunt Show will return for 2017 at Noble’s Park. The show will be taking to the road to support Peel and Port Erin TT Days with additional displays. The TT Funfair will also be returning to Douglas Promenade to add to the festival atmosphere.

Rob Callister MHK, Member of the Department of Economic Development with responsibility for Tourism and Motorsport, commented:

‘I am delighted that there is such an action-packed calendar of events for TT 2017. The TT is the Island’s premier event for visiting motorcycle enthusiasts and it’s great to see the variety of entertainment options available for locals, visitors and fans alike. The spread of action around the Island demonstrates the continued appeal of the festival and the opportunities for local people and businesses to join in the fun and support the event.

‘The TT is an essential part of the Island’s culture and tourism, with thousands of visitors flocking to the Isle of Man each year. The Department’s tourism strategy clearly outlines the development of key events on the Island and we will work closely with key stakeholders to maximise the profile of the TT and continue to develop its economic impact.’

The bumper programme of Island-wide events for the TT festival this year will be rounded off with a spectacular firework display over Douglas Bay on Friday 9 June.

The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, has advised that it won’t be on display at the Isle of Man TT in 2017 due to existing overseas commitments. The Department will be submitting an application for the Red Arrows’ attendance at the TT in 2018.

The full programme, with timings and venues, will be released soon.
